Ajay Noronha is a Mumbai-based cinematographer and documentary film maker. His passion for telling a story using images has taken him across the world in diverse contexts - television shows, documentaries, feature films, music videos, video art installations and workshops. Ajay teaches cinematography at the Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai besides conducting workshops at other film schools. He is currently exploring the role of expressive arts in conflict transformation with children and educators from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Palestine and Israel.

Dr. Amol Dighe is a Professor of Physics in Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. He works in the area of High Energy Physics, which aims to understand the fundamental forces in nature by studying elementary particles. He likes to look at particles that come to us from the sky, even the invisible ones!
Amol completed his B.Tech. in Engineering Physics (1992) from IIT Bombay. His M.S. and Ph.D. (1997) were from the University of Chicago, where he tried to figure out why we do not see antimatter around us. Later he spent six years as a a postdoctoral researcher in Europe: at International Center for Theoretical Physics (Trieste, Italy), CERN (Geneva, Switzerland) and Max Planck Institute for Physics (Munich, Germany), before joining TIFR as a faculty member in 2003. He has more than a hundred scientific publications in international journals.
He was one of the first Indian Bronze Medalists in the International Mathematics Olympiad, held in Germany in 1989. He has received the Institute Silver Medal from IIT Bombay, and the Worldlab-CERN John Bell Scholarship. He was the Leader of the Max Planck - India Partner Group in Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics for five years. He has been elected the Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, and the Indian National Science Academy. He has won the Swarnajayanti Fellowship from the Department of Science and Technology, and is the recipient of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, the most prestigious award for young scientists in India.
Mr. Amole Gupte is a child rights activist. In addition to being an active part of the social sector, he is also an award winning writer, director, producer and actor. Mr. Gupte has been working with children for over 15 years. Volunteering in schools for the differently abled resulted in the highly acclaimed Taare Zameen Par. He was writer-creative director of the film, while also contributing to the lyrics and the art works used in the film. Soon after he, along with his wife Ms. Deepa Bhatia, were able to address social issues of inequality and child labour in their first home production - the much appreciated Stanley ka Dabba.
Apart from writing, directing and producing the film, Mr. Gupte also plays a pivotal role in Stanley ka Dabba. As an actor he has made waves with his portrayal of Bhope Bhau in Vishal Bharadwaj's Kaminey. He has also acted inother films like Singham Returns, Phas Gaya Re Obama, Bheja Fry 2 and Urumi. Mr. Amole Gupte is the writer, producer and director of the highly acclaimed film Hawaa Hawaai which is a strong social commentary on issues of inequality, child labour, education, farmer suicides, dislocation and migration. He has been working with under-privileged children from all across Mumbai and holding theatre and filmmaking workshops with them. He is an active volunteer of Aseema, Apne Aap's Women's Collective and Parivartan. The workshops have resulted in three films made by the children of Aseema, Aansoo Bane Moti, Ummeed and Gifted Smile.
Amrit Gangar is a Mumbai-based independent writer, raconteur, film theorist, curator and historian. He has written widely on cinema, popular culture and the city and generally on aesthetics. He was Indian correspondent to Film International and ARTiT, published respectively from Tehran and Tokyo. He is a Consultant Curator for the National Museum of Indian Cinema being set up in Mumbai. He is a curator for the Kochi Biennale for its Artists' Cinema section.
From 1990 to 1996, he had curated retrospective programs for the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) for Documentary, Short & Animation Films. He also curated film programs for Mumbai's Kala Ghoda Artfest for over four years from its inception in 1994. As Artistic Consultant he had worked as Artistic Consultant with Marina Abramovic on a dance-theatre project Total Masala Slammer directed by Michael Laub. It was produced by Hebbel Theatre, Berlin. He writes both in English and Gujarati languages. Two of his books have been awarded by the Gujarat Sahitya Akademi.
Cinema of Prayoga is a new theoretical concept that he has conceived and developed and has so far presented it at various venues in India and the world, including Tate Modern, London; Pompidour Centre, Paris; Students Centre, Zagreb; Danish Film Institute, Copenhagen; York University, Toronto; NCPA and Jnanapravaha in Mumbai; Santiniketan, etc. An edited book titled Cinema of Prayoga was published in London in 2006, at present he is engaged with writing an independent book on his filmosophical concept.
One of India's leading tabla players, Aneesh Pradhan is a disciple of Pandit Nikhil Ghosh from whom he inherited a considerable repertoire of traditional tabla solo compositions from the Delhi, Ajrada, Lucknow, Farrukhabad and Punjab gharanas.
Greatly appreciated by both the cognoscenti and the lay listener as a soloist and accompanist, Aneesh Pradhan is the recipient of several awards such as the Aditya Birla Kala Kiran Award (2000), the Natyadarpan Award for 'Best Background Score' (1998) for music direction to the Marathi play 'Tumbara' directed by Sunil Shanbag, the Vasantotsav Award (2012) instituted in memory of the eminent vocalist Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande, and the Saath Sangat Kalakar Award (2013) instituted in memory of G.L.Samant by the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Pune.
A popular performer at most prestigious concerts and festivals in the country, Aneesh Pradhan has also traveled widely and performed overseas at major events. He has also recorded prolifically for national and international record labels accompanying a host of vocalists and instrumentalists. His first tabla solo album titled "Tabla: the solo tradition" recorded in concert in 1997 and published in 2004, was followed by "Tabla solo: a continuing tradition", a studio recording made in 2006.
Aneesh broadcasts regularly as an A grade artiste on Indian radio and television. He has also been featured on radio and television networks overseas and was one of the presenters for a radio series entitled "Perspectives - North Indian Classical Music" featured on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. His inputs on the rhythmic aspects of this system of music were of particular significance to this series.
Apart from his work with art music, Aneesh Pradhan is also a frequent participant in cross-cultural musical collaborations both in the capacity of performer and composer. Drawn equally towards melody and rhythm, Aneesh's compositions range from pieces composed for tabla solo repertoire, to melodic and text-based compositions that are based on traditional vocal and instrumental forms of Hindustani music. He is keen to push the envelope in experimenting with sound and music through his composition for film, television, theatre and dance projects. Aneesh has also been a member of the Japan-based Asian Fantasy Orchestra since 1998, and has also participated as composer and performer in an ongoing collaboration with the Ensemble Modern, Frankfurt, since 2003. Some of his cross-cultural collaborations have also been released commercially.
Aneesh Pradhan's teaching assignments in the past include stints as artist-in-residence at the University of New England, Australia, and as guest lecturer at the Music Department, University of Mumbai. He was Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Music, Media and Cultural Studies, Macquarie University, Australia, and was adjunct research fellow at the India Research Centre, Macquarie University, Australia. He regularly conducts lecture-demonstrations, workshops and participates in seminars, at various universities and other educational institutions in India and abroad. Presently, Aneesh is adjunct senior lecturer in the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, Monash University, Australia.
His study and research in the area of History, which he studied at the University of Mumbai has earned him a doctorate. He has been a keen researcher of trends in performance, music education and patronage that unfolded in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, a period that continues to fascinate him for its direct relation to and reason for the musical situation he finds himself in. He writes frequently on music for newspapers, journals and other publications in India and abroad and is also deeply involved in creating and developing educational material related to Indian music. He is the author of a children's book on tabla, which is part of a forthcoming twelve book series entitled Baajaa Gaajaa: Musical Instruments of India. He has also written Tabla: A Performer's Perspective, which gives an overview of the stylistic features and performance contexts of the instrument. His latest book is entitled Hindustani Music in Colonial Bombay. He has also directed and produced a short film entitled Pratidhvani: Reverberations of the Nanasaheb Panse Pakhawaj Tradition.
Aneesh is the Director of Underscore Records Pvt. Ltd, an independent online record label that he established with vocalist Shubha Mudgal. He also co-curates with Shubha Mudgal, an international music festival called Baajaa Gaajaa: Music from 21st Century India.

Anil Srinivasan is a pianist by training and an educator by choice. His innovative 'Rhapsody' music initiative now reaches 75,000 children in South India, including in some of the most marginalized backgrounds. Using music to teach other disciplines, notably maths and science, his idea of intersecting between ideas has seen him collaborate even in performance contexts with the world's best and most well-known musicians.
Anita Salim is an actor/teacher/producer of The Phoenix Players and has been conducting drama workshops since 1984. An alumnus as well as visiting faculty (Acting) of the Film and TV Institute of India, Pune, she travels extensively, touring major cities across the country, teaching and performing.
Prof. Ankona Datta grew up on IIT Kharagpur's university campus. In 2000, she received both her Bachelor's as well as her Master's degrees in Chemistry from the same esteemed institution. Motivated by her experimental stints in several research groups at IIT Kharagpur during summer vacations, and encouraged by her father, Prof. Datta decided to continue in academics and joined Princeton University for Graduate studies. At Princeton, she worked on developing water-soluble catalysts with Prof. John T. Groves. She then moved to the University of California, Berkeley, where she joined as a postdoctoral scholar in the laboratory of Prof. Kenneth N. Raymond and got a flavour of coordination chemistry at its best. Here she worked on developing MRI contrast agents. During this time, she attended the World Molecular Imaging Congress and was fascinated by how chemistry can be directly applied to visualize biology.
Prof Datta started her career as an independent researcher at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, India in 2010. She and her team of vibrant students are excited by the plethora of possibilities that synthetic chemistry offers in developing molecules that can help us visualize the molecular basis of life.
Anurag Kashyap plays many roles in the world of Indian cinema, and each of his avatars is distinct, characterised by his strong, signature style. He is a director, screenwriter, producer and actor, and is often regarded as the face of an emerging new wave in films. Anurag has produced numerous independent films with newcomers. For his contributions to film, the Government of France awarded him the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) in 2013.
After writing a television serial, Anurag got his major break as a co-writer in Ram Gopal Varma's crime drama Satya (1998), and made his directorial debut with Paanch, which never had a theatrical release due to censorship issues. He then went on to direct Black Friday (2007), a film based on the book by Hussain Zaidi about the 1993 Bombay bombings. Though the release was delayed, when it came to the theatres in 2007, the film opened to widespread critical appreciation. His next venture Dev.D (2009), a modern adaptation of Devdas, was both a critical and commercial success. It was followed by the political drama Gulaal (2009), and the thriller That Girl in Yellow Boots (2011). His prominence increased with the two-part crime drama, Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). His next films were Bombay Talkies (2013), Ugly (2014) and Bombay Velvet (2015).
Anurag Kashyap's work is widely acclaimed and awarded in India as well as internationally. Apart from filmmaking, Anurag serves as the Member of board of the Mumbai-based NGO, Aangan, which helps protect vulnerable children around India. He is the founder of two film production companies; Anurag Kashyap Films, which is run by Guneet Monga and Phantom Films in partnership with directors Vikramaditya Motwane and Vikas Bahl as well as producer Madhu Mantena.
Anurupa Roy is a puppeteer, puppet designer and director of the puppet theater. Puppeteer Anurupa Roy views puppetry as not "manipulating dolls with strings" but an amalgam of plastic and performing arts where sculptures, masks, figures, materials, found objects and narratives come together with music, movement, physicality and theater to create the theater where humans and puppets are co actors. She started at her group Katkatha in 1998 which was registered as the Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust 2006. She has directed over 15 shows for children and adults ranging from the Ramayana and Mahabharata to Shakespearean comedy to the Humayun-nama. The puppets used by the group range from 3 inches to forty feet. The shows have toured across Europe, Japan and South Asia. A major aspect of her work is using puppets for psycho-social interventions in conflict areas like Kashmir, Sri Lanka and Manipur to Juvenile Remand homes. She has worked with youth and women across the country using puppets to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and gender issues. She is a recipient of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar ine Puppetry(2006). She has been a visiting faculty at the University of California Los Angeles an Artists in Residence at Pro Helvetia Swiss Arts Council.
Arnab Bhattacharya is a scientist and science communicator at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Mumbai. His group works in the area of semiconductor optoelectronics. Arnab has a B.Tech. degree from IIT-Bombay , a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and worked at the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut in Berlin, before setting up a research group in TIFR. Beyond semiconductors, Arnab is passionate about science outreach, and enjoys talking about science and demonstrating science experiments to all audiences, particularly school and college students. Arnab pioneered "Chai and Why?" Mumbai's bimonthly science cafe, and received the 2010 Homi Bhabha Award in Science Education, and the 2012 Chevening Rolls-Royce Fellowship for Science and Innovation Leadership. He is presently the chair of Science Popularization and Public Outreach at TIFR.
Apart from doing (sometimes) or talking (mostly) science, and Arnab has crazily eclectic interests, and tries to find some time for music, quizzing, cooking, hiking, photography, marathon running, etc. (in no particular order).
Arundhathi Subramaniam is the author of four books of poetry, most recently When God is a Traveller (published by HarperCollins in India and Bloodaxe Books in the UK). Widely translated and anthologized, her new book is the Winter Choice of the Poetry Book Society, UK, shortlisted for the TS Eliot Poetry Prize.
Her prose works include the bestselling biography of a contemporary mystic, Sadhguru: More Than A Life (Penguin) and The Book of Buddha (Penguin). As editor, her most recent book is Eating God: A Book of Bhakti Poetry (Penguin, 2014). Her other volumes as editor include Another Country (a Sahitya Akademi anthology on contemporary Indian poetry in English), Pilgrim's India (a Penguin book on sacred journeys), and Confronting Love (a co-edited Penguin anthology of love poems).
Arundhathi has worked over the years as arts journalist, curator and poetry editor. She has been the Head of Indian Dance and Head of Chauraha, an interactive arts forum at the National Centre for the Performing Arts. She has also been Editor of the India domain of the Poetry International Web since its inception, a project that has grown into a significant web archive of contemporary Indian poetry. Active as a freelance writer on the performing arts and literature for over twenty-five years, she now divides her time between Bombay/ Mumbai and a yoga centre in Coimbatore.
Askari Naqvi is a trained Vocalist, Artist & Performer. He got his training of music under Pandit Amit Mukerjee from Indore Gharana. He has been performing Soz-Khwani (Songs of Lament)) from a very young age as it was part of his family traditions. He is the first person in the country to introduce Soz Khwani to the mainstream audience apart from community performances. He also performs Dastangoi which is an oral tradition of story telling. Askari Naqvi has done various shows of Soz Khwani and Dastangoi across India.
Astad Deboo's name is synonymous with Contemporary Indian Dance, a style that he pioneered at a time when innovations in Indian dance were not welcomed. Deboo's work in the 1970s and 80s was not accepted by Indians who saw it as "too western" nor by westerners who judged it as "not Indian enough." By the 1990s, audiences in India and beyond grew receptive to new Indian dance idioms partly influenced by globalization, internet and increased transnational travel. Deboo has received two prestigious awards from the Government of India: in 1995, the Creative Dance Award from the Government's major Arts organization, Sangeet Natak Akademi, and in 2007, the Padma Shri recognizing him as a pioneer in Contemporary Indian Dance.
Deboo's dynamic dance career of over 40 years, with performances in over 60 countries, includes solo, group and collaborative choreography with performing artists.
Deboo describes his style as "contemporary in vocabulary and traditional in restraints." With a base in kathak studied with Guru Prahlad Das from a young age (later studying Kathakali with Guru E.K. Pannicker) Astad traveled to the US, Europe, Southeast Asia and Japan observing and learning different dance vocabularies. "My style has evolved from energetic and entertaining" remarks Astad, "to minimalist and introspective, from the narrative to the abstract." His stunning signature style is characterized by intense focus, concentration and technical virtuosity along with a distinctively Indian aesthetic of evoking rasa (emotion).
Deboo collaboratively created Rhythm Divine with Manipuri drummers, pungcholam. Similar to Deboo's energy in providing a platform for Manipuri artists from India's largely neglected Northeast, his humanistic social vision with the highest aesthetic standards inspires his creative choreography over the past twenty years with the deaf- first with The Action Players in Kolkata, then in Chennai with The Clarke School for the Deaf (ContraPosition). ContraPosition opened the International Deaf Olympics (Melbourne, Australia, 2005). Between 2005 -2007 Contraposition had 75 shows across India, Southeast Asia, Europe and Australia.
The Astad Deboo Foundation, formed in 2002 aims to provide creative training to able-bodied and disabled artists.
Astad's deep humanity led to his evocative work, Breaking Boundaries, with street children of Salaam Baalak Trust . As in Deboo's work with the deaf, he challenges these youth to achieve Deboo's signature meditative and minimalist style. He recognizes them as artists and builds their self-confidence and group spirit through rigorous training. Deboo has presented them in various Indian cities.
Contemporary Indian Dance has Astad's unique stamp on it. His significant legacy offers innovative models for younger Indian artists whom he exhorts with characteristic clarity: "to be contemporary Indian dancers, we must be Indian contemporary", not simply imitate the west. "Indian contemporary" idioms evolve from India's rich expressive traditions along with openness to intercultural and cross-disciplinary interactions in today’s globalized world.
Atul Dodiya was born in 1959, Mumbai, India. Widely considered as one of India's most significant artists, Atul Dodiya was trained in Mumbai, at Sir JJ School of Art, 1982 and Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, 1991-1992. Trained in both Mumbai and Paris, Atul Dodiya became known in the Nineties for hyperrealist paintings depicting middle-class Indian life and for his watercolour series on Mahatma Gandhi. The paintings by Atul Dodiya are populated by diverse traditions in painting, the written words, images from the media and of saints, legends, national history, political events, traumata and autobiographical narratives. His allegorical paintings on canvas or metal roller shutters and watercolours may be aggressive or poetic. Atul Dodiya has had more than 28 solo shows in India and abroad, which includes a mid career retrospective at Japan Foundation Asia Centre, Tokyo in 2001, a solo show in Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid in 2002, Contemporary Arts Centre, Cincinnati, US in 2013, a major survey show of his work held at the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, 2013. Participated in 1st Yokohoma Triennale, 2001, 51st Venice Biennale, 2005, Documenta12, 2007, 7th Gwangju Biennale, 2008, 3rd Moscow Biennale, 2009, Biennale Jogja XI, 2011, 7th Asia Pacific Triennale, Brisbane, 2012 and Kochi Muziris Biennale, Kochi, India, 2012. A major monograph on Atul Dodiya, published by Prestel Verlag and Vadehra Art Gallery, will be released in January 2014.
Atul Kulkarni is a theatre and film actor. He has worked in more than 60 films in 7 languages. An alumni of National School of Drama (N.S.D.), New Delhi, Atul has won many awards including 2 national awards for his work.
Atul Pethe is a highly-acclaimed and celebrated personality in Marathi theatre, and over the last 35 years, he has worked very closely with experimental theatre. He has conducted many experiments in theatre through his writing, direction and acting.
While he has acted in well-known plays like Ghashiram Kotwal, Pralay, Atireki Saptnekarache Mool, and Padgham, he has also written plays such as Chess, Yatra and Kshitij. He is also well-versed in direction and has directed Shityuddha Sadanand, Waiting for Godot, Soorya Pahilela Manoos, Dalpatsing Yeti Gavs, Satyashodhal, Chowk, Golayug and Ashadhatil Ek Diwas. All these plays are socio-politically relevant and are astute responses to the changing times. Atul Pethe has even devised a new form of theatre - Ringan natya, as a protest, after Dr.Narendra Dabholkar's brutal assassination.
Apart from all these achievements, he has several documentaries to his name, includins Tendulkar and Violence - Now and Then, Natakkar Satish Alekae, SEZ and Kacharakondi. His published books are Natakwalyache Prayog and Ringannatya.
Atul Pethe's plays have travelled extensively, both in India and abroad, and he has received many prestigious awards for these.
Prof. Basudeb Dasgupta is a theoretical physicist at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai and the Head of a Max Planck Partner-group on Astroparticle Physics at TIFR. His research is at the interface of particle physics, cosmology, and astrophysics - aimed at understanding how the laws of subatomic physics shape the Universe at large. Prof. Dasgupta has published extensively on this subject, specialising in neutrino physics and dark matter. He is a regular speaker at major international conferences, and explaining complex scientific issues in a bare-bones non-technical manner is one of his driving passions.
Ben Rivers specializes in the use of applied theatre for community mobilization, cultural activism and psychosocial health promotion. Over the past 14 years he has worked extensively with individuals, families and communities impacted by structural oppression, political violence and collective trauma. Ben has taught and practiced in Australia, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and North America. Over the past 2 years, Ben has worked at The Freedom Theatre in Jenin Refugee Camp where he founded the Freedom Bus initiative - a Playback Theatre project engaging thousands of Palestinians and people from abroad in cultural actions that promote civil rights and equality. Ben is a Registered Drama Therapist and Accredited Playback Theatre Trainer. He holds a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, USA. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate at the University of New England, Australia.

Bhawana Somaaya has been a film critic for over 30 years and has contributed columns to several significant publications including The Hindu, The Hindustan Times, The Indian Express and others.
She is the former editor of Screen and has authored 13 books on cinema that includes biographies of Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchan. Once Upon A Time In India-A century of Indian cinema is her latest release. Her books are a point of reference for students studying cinema at Whistling Woods, Manipal University and now JNU, Delhi.
She has served on Advisory Panel of Censor Board of Film Certificate in India, is Chair Person of TIFF (Tigerland India Film Festival), Madhya Pradesh and on the Governing Council for FTII. She is currently the Entertainment Editor at 92.7 BigFM radio channel and writes a weekly column for The Quint.

Bishakha Datta has worked at the cusp of art, media and activism for more than 20 years - ever since she edited the lovingly-titled book, And Who Will Make The Chappatis? A writer, filmmaker, and creative media producer, Bishakha is also the founder of the non-profit Point of View. Much of her work is around the intersections of gender and sexuality in digital and physical spaces. Much of her work explores marginal, invisible, and silenced points of view - or those considered illegitimate.
Bishakha's film work includes In The Flesh, a film on the lives of three sex workers, and Taza Khabar, which delves into a unique women-run rural newspaper. Books she edited include Nine Degrees of Justice, a collection of essays on the struggle against violence on women in India, and And Who Will Make the Chapatis?, an anthology on rural women's political participation. In 2015, she launched the online imprint, Deep Dives, which publishes long-form journalism on 'the way we live now'. Bishakha, who started her working life as a journalist, is currently writing #Selling Sex, a book on the lives and realities of sex workers in India.
American composer, instrumentalist, producer, educator D.Wood came to India on a Fulbright research scholarship a few decades ago and has been based here most of that time. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, BA and Beacon College, Washington DC, MA, Wood has explored musical traditions of India, West Africa and the Americas, producing 7 albums and working with artists from diverse musical backgrounds. He has collaborated with film makers Mani Kaul, Dev Benegal, Kabir Mohanty, performed in Music festivals globally, and taught hundreds of students.He currently heads the music department at Whistling Woods International, is the Creative Director of The Bandra Base - a community based arts and education initiative and works as a voice over artist and music producer.
Darshana Jhaveri has been a Manipuri dancer for 50 years, specializing in both the Tandav and the Lasya elements of the traditional dance form. Her performances in India and abroad began back in 1958. And she was presented with the President's Padmashri Award in 2000.
Darshana collaborated with Guru Bipin Singh for research work in 1960. Since then, both of them have studied the Manipuri dance tradition, recorded oral traditions of Manipur, formulated teaching courses, written articles for various publications and given innumerable interviews and demonstrations at various seminars and conferences.
With a Bachelor of Arts degree in ancient Indian culture, Darshana Jhaveri has been teaching for 35 years and has been a Research Scholar for 40. She is one of the founders and now the director of Manipuri Nartanalaya at Mumbai, Kolkata and Manipur. She is actively associated with teaching, creative production, performances, research, publications, public relations, fund raising and organization at Manipuri Nrityakendra, Mumbai, of which she is also the Executive President.
In addition, Darshana has written and been the co-author for various books on Manipuri dance.
Guru Smt. Debi Basu has, for the past several years, dedicated herself to the perpetuation and enrichment of Odissi dance. She imbibed this art form under the guidance of the great Odissi master, Padmavibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.
A critically-acclaimed performer for more than 3 decades, she has performed in some of the world's most prestigious platforms in India and abroad. Smt. Debi Basu has conducted many workshops and lecture demonstrations around the world.
An exemplary Guru, her dedication to Odissi is truly awe-inspiring for her pupils, who have emerged as acclaimed dancers. Her deep interest in literature and philosophy permeate through her dance and has provided her with a rare insight into the art of choreography. Her commitment to the continuation and augmentation of her chosen art form has seen her as one of the foremost Gurus in her generation, initiating beginners as well as senior students into the finer nuances of Odissi.

She has several television performances to her credit and has been involved in classical dance choreography for critically-acclaimed films.

Dhanashree holds a Masters Degree in Indian Classical music from Mumbai University and has established a prominent place on the classical music stage, her speciality being the "Thumri" or semi-classical genre of music. She is committed to giving thumri its rightful place on the concert stage. She has been a Disciple of Pandit Firoz Dastur, stalwart of the Kirana Gharana and Shobha Gurtu the renowned Thumri legend.
Besides concerts in India and abroad, Dhanashree has been conducting lecture demonstrations and workshops on the Appreciation of Hindustani music and has also designed several modules and thematic concerts on various aspects of Indian Classical and semi classical music. Her talk at the TEDx conference in 2010 on "The essence of Indian music"was widely acclaimed. She has also collaborated with world renowned Jazz artistes on crossovers and fusion music and recorded several albums with them.
Dhanashree was awarded the "Pillars of Hindustani Society" award for 2007-2008 by the Trans Asian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as also the "Women Achievers Award" by the Indo American Society, Mumbai (March 2017) for her outstanding contribution to Vocal Hindustani Classical Music.
Dilip Prabhavalkar is an acclaimed theatre, television and film actor, whose career spans a glorious 45 years. Interestingly, he has an academic background in Biophysics from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. However, acting was always his passion and he pursued it as a hobby for 10 years before eventually making it his full-time profession.
His extensive body of work began with children's theatre and the experimental stage, and went on to encompass work in professional Marathi theatre, television (since its days of inception), Marathi cinema, and recently, even mainstream Hindi cinema. He has played iconic roles in all these mediums, and they include 'Chimanrao' in the days of early Doordarshan, the mentally-stunted Nandu in 'Choukat Raja', a schizophrenic in 'Ratra Aarambha', 6 entirely disparate characters in his own play 'Hasvaphasvi', and Mahatma Gandhi in the now cult classic 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'.
Each of his roles has been well-appreciated by audiences and critics alike. Dilip Prabhavalkar has received several prestigious awards, both at the State as well as National level. He is also a writer of over 20 books that have been awarded at the State and National level for their literary merit.
Faisal Abu Alhayjaa
Faisal is a Palestinian actor with The Freedom Theatre in Jenin Refugee Camp. He belongs to the first generation of graduates from The Freedom Theatre School and has continued as a resident actor in many of the theatre's productions, touring Palestine and internationally. He was part of the first group of Playback Theatre artists in Palestine and coordinated the Freedom Bus project that brings cultural resistance to communities across the occupied Palestinian territory.
Today, he is teaching new generations of actors in The Freedom Theatre School and has directed a play about popular resistance in Palestine. Faisal has represented The Freedom Theatre across the globe and given workshops in how theatre can be used as a tool of resistance.
Gauri Sharma Tripathi
Gauri Sharma Tripathi is an artist in residence at The Southbank Centre, London. She has trained in the classical tradition of Kathak, which she learned from her guru and mother Padma Sharma.
For Gauri dance is a way of life and it reflects the artistic journey. The simplicity of life portrayed through emotions and sheer joy of being from the beginning to the end. Dance is her mantra. Taking Kathak into a non-traditional and collaborative environment, Gauri has choreographed and performed in shows including Coming of Age, Baiju Bawara, Escapade, Sapnay, Waterscapes, Initium and Sufi:Zen for Akademi. Her choreographic highlights include Polaroid Feet, Sacred Monsters, Ronin and Gnosis for Akram Khan. It also includes the productions Mahabharat and Wah Wah Girls for Sadler's Wells.
Known for grounding her performance in the traditions of Kathak while giving it a contemporary viewpoint, she has toured pieces including Circa, Waqt, Ishmir, Timelapse, Vyuha and has collaborated with Shlomo, a beat boxer to create the first Kathak and Beatboxing choir titled Urban Vani. Gauri has choreographed Bollywood Trip in collaboration with Theatre Republique Denmark for the Olympic season. Also being a curator of Alchemy and The Women of the World festivals at the Southbank Centre, Gauri has brought a strong South Asian presence into the UK arts scene. She is a choreographer for the Jagriti Yatra, a unique train journey in its 15th Year in India. Gauri alongside her mother, Padma Sharma and daughter, Tarini has initiated a three-generation Kathak performance, which sees an unusual blend of the old and new called Taa, The Beginning.
She continues to bring events like Kathak Stanzaz Big Chair Dance with the elderly and Kathak Collective which she mentors for her Ankh Group. Gauri wrote the three year degree course on Kathak for London Contemporary Dance School and she is also an ISTD South Asian dance faculty member and a performing member of the NCPA and ICCR, India.
Gauri has collaborated with likes of Nitin Sawhney, Niraj Chag, Ashit Desai, Raghu Dixit, Sri, Taufiq Qureshi, Patricia Rosario, Reena Bharadwaj, Akram Khan, Zakir Hussain, Jagdish Mistry, Mavin Khoo, Rolf Heim, Shoumik Datta, Kalinath Mishra, Hiren Chate, Geetika Varde, Sveta Kilpady, Alaknanda Samarth, Mira Kaushik, Elton John and A.R Rahman. She has developed a vision to forge a new generation of performance makers - individuals who see themselves as dancers, creators, entrepreneurs in the new choreographic piece, Bodyline, which is on tour in the UK and building on her solo performances, alongside teaching in India. Her new piece, Antahkarna, looks at Kathak performances in its vivid and varied forms.
Geetanjali Kulkarni graduated from the National School Of Drama in 1996, with a specialization in acting. She then began to work as an actor on the Marathi and Hindi stage, and has been doing so for the last 14 years. A well-known name in the field, Geetanjali Kulkarni has been part of plays like Mukkam Post Bombilwadi, Buddhbal ani Jhabbu, Ek Rkaami Baju, Sex Morality and Censorship, and Piya Behrupiya.
Geetanjali was awarded the Z Best Actress Award (Experimental Play Category) for her role in Ek Rkaami Baju. She also received a META award for the Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Sex, Morality and Censorship.
Geetanjali has even starred in a film - Court, directed by Chaitanya Tamhane.

He has published three books of poetry: "Poems" (pub. Nissim Ezekiel, Mumbai, 1966), "How Do You Withstand, Body" (pub. Clearing House, Mumbai, 1976), "Mirrored, Mirroring" (pub. Oxford University Press, Madras, 1991).
He has written three plays, which have been performed in Bombay and other places. A collection of his plays "Mister Behram and Other Plays" was published by
Seagull Books, Calcutta, in 2007.
He conducts an annual, ongoing poetry workshop for school students at Rishi Valley Scool, Andhra Pradesh since the last twenty years. "Poetry With Young People", an anthology of poems written by the students, was published by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi in 2007.
He has worked as a medical practitioner in rural and urban India.

Printed Rainbow premiered at Cannes 2006, Critic's Week, in Competition. It went on to win the three Awards for the best Short film at Cannes 2006. It was also short listed in the last ten films for the Academy Awards in 2008, besides winning 25 International Awards and traveling to over a hundred international festivals.Her latest short film TrueLoveStory which won the Golden Conch at Mumbai Intl Film Festival, has also been selected at the Cannes Critic's Week 2014. She also has a string of very popular and award winning animated commercials to her credit and is currently represented by Acme Film Works, L.A.
Gitanjali also conducts workshops and presentations and has been in the jury at various International Film Festivals including the prestigious Cannes Critic's Week 2011.

Hema Upadhyay lives and works in Mumbai. Her areas of interest are materials, ideas, spaces and our psychological link with them. Hemant Chaturvedi has been a cinematographer in the Mumbai television and film industry for about three decades, until he decided to pursue different passions. During his career, he photographed movies like Company, Maqbool, 15 Park Avenue, Kurbaan, Ishaqzaade, Arjun the Warrior Prince, Brothers, and more. Over the last year, Hemant has been finishing a documentary he directed and taking stock of his lifelong work as a still photographer.
Dr. Ileana Citaristi is an Italian-born Odissi and Chhau dancer and choreographer, based in Bhubaneshwar, India. She was awarded the 43rd National Film Awards (1996) for Best Choreography for Yugant, a Bengali film directed by Aparna Sen. She was also conferred with the Padma Shri in 2006 for her contributions to Odissi dance. Besides Yugant, Dr. Citaristi has also choreographed for M.F. Hussain's Meenaxi: Tale of Three Cities (2003) and Goutam Ghose's Abar Aranye (2004). Dr. Citaristi is the author of three books; The Making of a Guru: Kelucharan Mohapatra, His Life and Times (2001), Traditional Martial Practices in Orissa (2012) and her own autobiography My Journey, a Tale of Two Births.
Dr. Jaikumar Radhakrishnan is a theoretical computer scientist, who enjoys applying algebraic, combinatorial, probabilistic and information theoretic tools for studying problems in computer science and discrete mathematics. He completed his BTech in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1985. After this, he worked at CMC, Kolkata, for a year, where he wrote software. He received his PhD in Computer Science from Rutgers University in 1991 and has been at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research since then.
Jaimini Pathak is the founder of Working Title, a Mumbai-based arts organisation. His last 15 years have been dedicated to working in theatre development, engagement and performances for audiences ranging from age 5 to 75. From village fairs to Waterman Theatre in London, his work is spread over a variety of locations across India and the world. His activities include Theatre-in-Education programmes, several year-long Theatre curriculum development programmes with schools and colleges across the country, as well as Theatre-in-Corporate programmes that focus on communication and skill development in various corporate organisations.

He has edited and introduced Maps for a Mortal Moon; Essays and Entertainments; Prose by Adil Jussawalla (Aleph Books, 2014). Leela's Quilt; A Life in Pictures (Penguin/Viking, 2010), on which he worked with Leela Naidu, has been well-received and been described as "a stunningly eloquent portrait" (Mint Lounge). He has translated Sachin Kundalkar's Cobalt Blue (Penguin Books, 2013) from Marathi. He has written the scripts for two wildlife documentaries In the Pink,on the flamingos of Mumbai,and The Last Dance, on the Indian sloth bear.
Jerry is also active in the sphere of child rights activism and teaches journalism at the Sophia Institute of Social Communications Media at the Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai. He is at work on his next novel, his next poem, his next translation and his next book for children.
Jyotishman Dasgupta (JD) received his PhD from Princeton University in 2006 and went on to pursue post doctoral studies at University of California, Berkeley. At TIFR, JD leads a group interested in deciphering chemical reaction mechanisms of photoinduced reactions specifically at the interface of chemistry and biology with emphasis on the "Energy Problem". Half of the group designs novel ultrafast and structure-sensitive experiments with the aim of understanding collective motions in variety of molecular/biomolecular systems, while the other half is involved in designing novel molecular photomaterials with high fault-tolerence and robustness.
K Ramachandran is one of those obsessed and active art lovers that the arts world cannot do without. He is the founder member and principal mentor of Keli, a Mumbai based Charitable organization striving to preserve, develop and propagate the classical and traditional cultural heritage of India. Under the banner of Keli, he has relentlessly researched, documented, presented and celebrated the great performance arts and artists of Kerala in particular. Every year, under his leadership, Keli holds delightful annual festivals in Mumbai - presenting thayambaka, or melam, or kathakali and more to a Mumbai audience in ways that appeal to us without losing the essential magic and core of the forms. In this lies the genius of Ramachandran - his ability to introduce age-old forms of performance to audiences in authentic and yet immensely delightful ways, his commitment to keeping the soul of the art alive even as he archives, documents and presents.
Ramachandran has been responsible for the publication of 2 books by Keli - Proud Imprints of Natyaveda documents the life and work of some of the most prominent masters of a variety of art forms and Abhinethri (The Actress) by Usha Nangyar explores the female presence in Koodiyattam, the world's most ancient theatre tradition.
A few years ago, Ramachandran forayed into making documentary films to record the great masters and promising proteges of the performance arts. His films include Kaalam (The unending Time) on the life of Sri Pallavoor Appu Marar, which received the Kerala Kala Mandalam Award for the director of the most outstanding short film devoted to performing arts, Sikhi (The Fire) on female power and dynamism in Nangyar Koothu, the world's most ancient women's theatre tradition (1200 yrs) and Koodiyattam, Saamam (The Music) on the musical journey of the great Karnatic vocalist the Late MD Ramanathan, and Pranathi on the formidable presence of the unmatched Melam artist Peruvanam Kuttan Marar, in the contemporary rhythm music of Kerala. He is currently engaged in the production of two films - one on the Kathakali maestro, Nelliyodu Vasudevan Namboodiri and the other one on the children of Rhythm from a percussion village which boasts a rhythm tradition of 1431 years.
K. Sridhar is a Professor of Theoretical Physics, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. His research is in the area of Theoretical High Energy Physics wherein he has published extensively and has presented several talks and lectures, both at technical and popular levels. He has recently published a book on theoretical physics for Cambridge University Press entitled Particle Physics of Brane-Worlds and Extra Dimensions. He has taught several courses on the philosophy of science and has co-edited a volume on Integrated Science Education, which is to be published shortly.
Other than physics, Sridhar's interests span philosophy, literature and culture. He has published a work of literary fiction called Twice Written which has received very good critical reviews. He has begun work on his second book of fiction titled Ajita. He has also engaged himself in things as diverse as writing on art, teaching philosophy and delivering talks on popular culture.
Kalki Koechlin is an Indian film actress of French descent who has essayed a variety of powerful roles. She debuted with the critically acclaimed 'Dev D' for which she received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress (2009).
Kalki has worked as a co-screenwriter with Anurag Kashyap in 'That Girl in Yellow Boots' and also starred in the film as an immigrant in search of her father. She received the National Award in the Best Jury Category (2016) for 'Margarita with a Straw', in which she plays a spirited, young woman with cerebral palsy.
Kalki has written, produced and acted in many stage plays including 'Trivial Disasters', 'The Real Inspector Hound' and 'Hair'. His works have been produced in cities outside the country as well including London, Leicester, New York, Washington DC, Sydney, Colombo, Toronto and Dubai. Mahesh Elkunchwar is one of India's most celebrated, respected and iconic playwrights. Born into a feudal family in a Parwa village in the Vidarbha district of Maharashtra, he was compelled to leave his parents at a young age and grew up in the city, lonely and disinterested. Since films and theatre were taboo in his family, Mahesh Elkunchwar saw his first play in Nagpur purely by chance.
He had set out to watch a film, but when he couldn't get tickets for that show, he decided to go watch a theatre performance instead. It was Vijaya Mehta's production of Vijay Tendulkar's famous play, Mee Jinklo Mee Harlo (I Won, I Lost). And that was it. It was love at first sight for Mahesh Elkunchwar. He went back to watch the play on the second day as well, and thus began a journey from which has never turned back.
His first work that brought him recognition on the national theatre scene was his one-act play, Sultan, in 1967. This was featured in the noted literary magazine, Satyakatha and was noticed by none other than Vijaya Mehta, who also went on to direct four of his early plays. Manav Kaul is a writer, actor and director. Manav started theatre in Bhopal in 1994 and went on to form ARANYA THEATRE GROUP in 2004 in Mumbai.

Mithilesh Mishra is a professor at TIFR. He is interested in understanding the mechanism underlying the process of cell division and its regulation. He uses a combination of in vitro and in vivo approaches including genetic, cellular, molecular and mathematical approaches to understand the assembly and function of the cell division apparatus. He uses the fission yeast as a simple model system to carry out most of their studies. As the process of cytokinesis and its regulation is mechanistically conserved, their findings should be applicable to understanding how cell division is controlled in human cells. Failure to complete cytokinesis results in aneuploidy associated with infertility, developmental defects and genetic instability that often lead to cancer. Hence, studying cytokinesis has important implications for cell proliferation and differentiation in normal development and also in disease conditions.
Dr. Mohan Agashe is a distinguished film and theatre actor as well as a trained psychiatrist. And his career consists of amazing experiences and high accolades from various fields. His contributions to film and theatre have been acclaimed and recognized across both industries. His numerous awards and honors are a testament to that. These even includes the Sangeet Natak Academy Award, India's highest national honour for the arts. Dr. Agashe was conferred the Padma Shri by the President of India and the Bundesverdienskreuz, The Cross of the Order of Merit by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany. He has also been awarded the Goethe Medal, the Official Decoration of the German Government for his contributions to theatre.

In the realm of theatre, he has been theatre consultant to the Indian Council of Cultural Relations and was in charge of the theatre program for the Festival of India in the former USSR. Dr. Agashe also introduced contemporary Indian Theatre to Europe and North America as an actor-manager of Theatre Academy's overseas tour. In this he presented Vijay Tendulkar's folk musical play Ghashiram Kotwal, which was invited to the International Theatre Festivals of Berlin (Festwochen 1980), Lille (1980) Belgrade (BITEF 1989) Quebec (1986) and Baltimore (Theatre of Nations 1986) besides also giving guest performances in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Budapest, Moscow and many cities of North America.
His greatest contribution to Indian and Marathi theatre has been his pioneering work in introducing the concept of Grips Theatre, a self-sustained theatre movement from Berlin. He has been recognized for his work in regional Marathi theatre with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the All India Marathi Natya Parishad in Pune.
Along with all of this, Dr. Agashe has been constantly active in the mental health field. He initiated a project to strengthen mental health education and service, and established the Maharashtra Institute of Mental Health. He initiated psychosocial rehabilitation of victims of the Latur earthquake of 1993 and was the Principal Investigator of a Research Project undertaken by Indian Council for Medical Research Centre for Advanced Research to study the health consequences of the earthquake disaster in 1994. He is currently the principal investigator of an Indo-U.S. joint Research Project on Cultural Disorders of Fatigue and Weakness. He was also the Principal Investigator of an Indo US joint Research project on Cultural Disorders of Fatigue & Weakness.
From sets to lights to art direction to stage production, M.S. Sathyu's incredible journey with design has spanned across film, theatre and television for over six decades. He quit his BSc degree in 1952 to follow his passion in films. It was an uncertain world to plunge into, but M.S. Sathyu knew that it was his calling. After four years of unemployment and struggle, he received his first assignment as an independent art director for Haqeeqat, a film by Chetan Anand. He was awarded the Filmfare Award for this in 1964. And after that, there was no looking back.
M.S. Sathyu has been working in films since 1956, playing diverse roles as an art director, cameraman, scriptwriter, producer and director. His vast filmography includes over 15 documentaries, around 25 advertisement films and 8 feature films in Hindi, Urdu and Kannada.
In the world of theatre, M.S. Sathyu is acclaimed and respected as a designer and director. His journey in this field began in 1952 and he has designed sets and lights for productions of Hindustani Theatre, Okhla Theatre, Kannada Bharati and other groups based in Delhi. Apart from this, M.S. Sathyu has worked with Alyque Padamsee's Theatre Group, Alkazi's Theatre Unit, Herbert Marshall's Civic Theatre, Balraj Sahni's Juhu Art Theatre, Indian National Theatre and many other Gujarati, English and Marathi theatre groups based in Bombay. He also shares a strong association with IPTA, directing some of their major stage productions.

Naba K Mondal is presently the Project Director of India-based Neutrino Observatory and a Senior Professor at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). His research interest lies in elementary particle physics- detecting elementary particles and studying their properties. He was involved in the pioneering Kolar Gold Fields experiment to study the stability of proton. He was also involved in the discovery of top quark at Fermi lab, USA. He was the coordinator of the Outer Hadron Calorimeter Project for the CMS experiment at CERN, Geneva which discovered the Higgs boson in 2012. Currently he is leading a team of scientists and engineers from 25 research institutes & universities from all over India for the development of an underground laboratory to study the properties of neutrinos.

Born in Nagpur in 1960, Nagesh Bhosle has been in love with theatre ever since he was a child. Today, after more than 14 years in the field, he is a respected theatre, television and film actor as well as a director and producer. The first play that had a huge impact on Nagesh was Aata Manushya Jagne, in which he was particularly taken by critically-acclaimed Arun Nalawade's role. This was when Nagesh was in college. The following year, he acted in a play called Kondmara, in which he played one of the leads.
However, the turning point in Nagesh Bhosle's career was after he came to Mumbai in the early nineties. He happened to meet renowned Marathi actor, poet and writer Mangesh Kulkarni, who suggested that Nagesh should audition for Vijaya Bai's adaptation of Girish Karnad's Nagamandala. Nagesh followed his advice and ended up being cast in the play with a significant role. This was a hugely enriching learning experience for Nagesh as he worked with theatre personalities of great repute.
After this, there was no looking back. Nagesh entered the big league of Marathi actors and became well recognized on the commercial Marathi stage. He also started acting in television serials like Upanyas, Hasratein, CID, Aahat and Bhavar. His first appearance in Marathi films was in Bangarwadi, followed by Daayra, which was directed by Amol Palekar. His other films include Bombay Boys, Shool and Bardaast.

Nancy Adajania is a cultural theorist and curator based in Bombay. Her book, The Thirteenth Place: Positionality as Critique in the Art of Navjot Altaf (2016), goes beyond the mandate of a conventional artist monograph to map the larger histories of the Leftist and feminist movements in India.
Nancy was Joint Artistic Director of the 9th Gwangju Biennale (2012) and has curated a number of exhibitions including a cycle of video art for 'Sights and Sounds: Global Film and Video', Jewish Museum, New York (2015). In 2013 and 2014, she taught the curatorial practice course at the Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts. In 2014, she curated the hybrid exhibition-publication project 'Sacred/Scared' (Latitude 28/ TAKE on Art magazine, Delhi), interweaving the expressive with the discursive by linking the exhibition to a transdisciplinary anthology.
Nancy has proposed several new theoretical models through her extensive writings on media art, public art, the biennial culture, transcultural art practices, and the relationship of art to the public sphere. Since the late 1990s, she has written consistently on the practices of four generations of Indian women artists. She was research scholar-in-residence at BAK/ basis voor actuele kunst, Utrecht, 2010 and 2013.
Nandita Das wears many hats and her fiery passion to make a difference is evident in the choices she has made, both professionally and personally. She has acted in over 40 feature films in 10 Indian languages, and in three professional plays.
She directed her debut feature, Firaaq, in 2008 that won her much appreciation and accolades in India and abroad. After her Masters in Social Work, she continues to advocate issues of social justice and human rights.
Between the Lines marks her debut as a playwright and theatre director. She writes a monthly column called the Last Word, for a national weekly. She was the Chairperson of the Children's Film Society, India, where she made many big and small changes to revamp the organization. She was on the jury of Cannes Film Festival twice (2005 and 2013).
The French Government conferred her with the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres), their prestigious civilian award. In 2011 Nandita Das was the first Indian to be inducted into the Hall of Fame of the International Women's Forum for her contribution to art that impacts social change.
More recently, Nandita was a Yale World Fellow 2014, among 16 other emerging global leaders who were chosen from close to 4000 applicants.

Born in Calcutta in 1953, Naveen Kishore received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature in 1973, and began working as a theatre lighting designer. He then established Seagull Books in 1982, a publishing programme in the arts and media focusing on drama, film, art and culture studies. Kishore turned to photography where he extensively documented female impersonators from Manipuri, Bengali and Punjabi theatre practices. In particular he photographed Chapal Bhaduri, a female impersonator of the Bengali folk theatre, Jatra, in a project entitled Performing the Goddess. Some of these pictures were exhibited as a part of a show entitled Woman/Goddess. Kishore lives and works in Calcutta.
Neena Kulkarni, actress, model, column writer, producer and director, began her acting journey in the 1970's on Marathi professional stage and Hindi experimental stage. She simultaneously pursued her career in fashion shows and modelling as well. Pt. Satyadev Duey was her first guru and she went on to be a part of several Hindi productions under his direction. Her prominent play performances include Mohan Rakesh's Adhe Adhure, Shankar Shesh's Mayavi Sarovar and Willie Russell's Educating Rita.
In 1978, Dr. Vijaya Mehta chose her to play Shabbo in Anil Barve's Hamidabai chi Kothi, and that’s when her long journey with Bai began. Bai took Neena Kulkarni into the remarkable world of Marathi theatre with Mahasagar and Savitri. She continues to assist Bai in her workshops.
Neena Kulkarni has won several awards, like Natya Darpan, State Awards, and the Natya Parishad recognition, for her performances in Marathi theatre. The plays include Mahasagar, Akasmat, Dhyani Mani, Vatvat Savitri, Dehabhaan, Prem Patra, Hamidabai chi Kothi and Chapa Kaata. She also directed the play Mahasagar in 2011.

Neeraj Kabi is a theatre and film actor, theatre director and trainer, and the founder and artistic director of Pravah Theatre Laboratory which is involved in theatre performance, training and research. Neeraj has been working for many years to evolve his own grammar of theatre and acting. As a theatre director, he is exploring the concept of collaborating Indian traditional artistes with urban actors to interpret English theatre texts. As an actor he has enjoyed lead roles with national and international theatre and art house film directors. Neeraj has also travelled across the country since 1996 to conduct theatre workshops for actors, animators, corporates, schools, colleges, young adults, teachers and parents.
Nemai Ghosh is best known as the photo-biographer of Satyajit Ray. From 1967 to 1992, the year that Satyajit Ray passed away, he photographed every aspect of the maestro at work.

Although Nemai Ghosh is identified mainly with his work and an association with Satyajit Ray that stretched for over thirty five years, he did not restrict himself only to Ray. His passion for theatre led to a second collection of photographs that forms a pictorial history of theatre in Kolkata over the last four decades. He concentrated on the experimental theatre groups of the city and its neighbourhood and his photographs capture the distinctive individualities of renowned directors, actors and actresses, such as, Sombhu Mitra, Utpal Dutt, Ajitesh Bandyopadhyay, Tripti Mitra, Badal Sarkar, Manoj Mitra, in performance as well as in directorial presence. He is the recipient of major awards in photography including First Prize in Stage and Screen Photography, awarded by Press Photographers' Association of India, 1978, and the Yakult Prize in the Fifth Photo Contest in Asia and Oceania 1980 organized by the Asian Cultural Centre for UNESCO.
He has served as Jury Member in the National Film Awards Committee for 2007 in the year 2009; and is recipient of the Padma Shri, a civilian honour instituted by the Government of India in the year 2010.

Prabhakar Kolte is an acclaimed painter whose striking body of work has been exhibited across India and the world. He was a student at the J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai, and returned to teach there as well. A painter for over 40 years, Prabhakar Kolte has a signature style that uses colour and textures in the most arresting way.
In 1983, for the Foundation Course at J.J. School of Arts, he did something very unique - wrapping an entire car in newspaper - so that people would feel and sense the art, rather than just passively observe it. At that time, he broke the norm, playing with the way art was perceived in India. Since then, Prabhakar Kolte has developed his own approach to teaching and wishes to take that forward in an institution of his own.

Prabodh Parikh is a Gujarati poet, short fiction writer and visual artist. He retired recently as Head of the Department of Philosophy at Mithibai College, Mumbai. Sensuous, metaphorical and surreal, Parikh’s poems reveal a sensibility that clearly owes a debt to varied modernist masters. He himself describes his work as "Baudelairean and Rimbaudean", and speaks with passion of the work of writers ranging from John Cage to Labhshankar Thakar. His book of poems, Kaunsman (Between Parentheses/In Brackets), published in 1993, is a significant collection in Gujarati literature, representing thirty years of work in poetry. It won him several awards, including the Best Poetry Collection of 1993-94 (Gujarat Sahitya Akademi) and the G.F. Saraf Award for Best Gujarati Book in 1992-95.
Prabodh Parikh is also the author of a volume of short fiction and a book of correspondence which comprises a selection of letters he wrote to Gujarati scholar, Harivallabh Bhayani. His poetry and fiction has been translated into Bengali, English, Hindi, Marathi, and Punjabi and published in various literary journals.

Prahlad Singh Tipaniya
Prahlad Singh Tipanya first heard the tamboura, a 5-string plucked instrument, in 1978, and was captivated. He was a 24-year-old village school teacher then, and singing was not an inherited family tradition. However, this became a defining moment for the way his life was going to unfold. For it was through the tamboura, that Prahladji encountered the world of Kabir. Two and a half decades later, he is one of the most compelling folk voices of Kabir in India.
An incredible musician, he sings and explains Kabir bhajans in the Malwi folk style from Madhya Pradesh. He is now a household name and most will acknowledge him as the man who has deeply impacted and contributed to a resurgence of oral traditions of Kabir singing in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh.
Prahladji combines a powerful singing style with the magnetic ability to communicate with his audiences. His concerts are more than entertaining music. They are deep engagements with the spiritual and social thought of Kabir. He is admired not only as a singer, but also revered as one who propagates with great personal intensity the spiritual message of Kabir. Prahladji has performed to audiences at a state, national and international level. In 2003 his troupe performed in the UK, and also toured the US for over 2 months. He has performed since 1980 on All India Radio stations in Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Patna, Lucknow and Kanpur, and is the recipient of several awards.
He has also set up the Kabir Smarak Seva Shodh Sansthan, on a plot of land granted to him by the state government in his village, Luniya Khedi. This registered trust organizes an annual event, where several thousands congregate to listen to Kabir's words through bhajans and discourses by gathered singers and spiritual leaders.
Prakash Jha is a multiple award winning independent filmmaker from India. He was born and brought up in a farmer's family in Champaran, and schooled at Sainik School Tilaiya, Bihar. In the year 1970, he gave up studying physics at Delhi University and took up cultivation at the family farm in Bettiah, West Champaran. Finally, in 1972, he came to Bombay in the pursuit of learning Fine Arts and joined the Film & Television Institute of India, Pune for a course in Film Editing.
Until now, he has directed 10 feature films, over 25 documentaries, 2 featurettes and 3 series for television. Prakash Jha's work has gain much appreciation and he has won 10 National Awards including two Golden Lotus awards for the Best Feature Film of the year; in 1985 for his film Damul - Bonded until Death and for the Best Documentary of the year 2002 for Sonal - a documentary on dancer Sonal Mansingh. He has also won the National Award for the Best Screenplay for Apaharan (2006) and the National Award for the Best Feature Film on Other Social Issues for Gangajal (2004). Several of his films have participated at various international film festivals and have won appreciation and awards.

A Chennai-based contemporary dancer, Preethi Athreya trained in Bharatanatyam and later went on to do a postgraduate degree in Dance Studies (Laban Centre, London, 2001).
Working within the Indian contemporary dance scene as a performer, choreographer and facilitator, Preethi's approach is marked by a constant dialogue with form and possibilities of reframing content.
Preethi is one of the co-founders of Basement 21, a practice-based performance collective in Chennai. She is the first recipient of the Ustad Bismillah Khan award for contemporary dance from the Indian Ministry of Culture in 2014. She has also been a recipient of the APPEX (Asia Pacific Performance Exchange) residency in 2010, Bali, Indonesia and the Charles Wallace India Scholarship in 2000, London, UK.

Vijayaraghavan, quantum physicist, was born in Delhi in 1978. Growing up, he always had a passion for science and engineering but he never thought he would end up being a scientist. It was only during his final year project at St.Stephen's college that he discovered his passion for research in Physics. Two more years at the University of Cambridge and he was convinced that a life pursuing research in quantum physics was the way to go. He joined the PhD programme at Yale University in 2001 and went on to the University of California, Berkeley for his post-doctoral work in 2008. After 13 years abroad, Vijay returned to India in December 2012 to start a career at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Mumbai. He currently heads the Quantum Measurement and Control Laboratory at TIFR which explores quantum phenomena in superconducting electrical circuits for applications in quantum computing.

One of India's most noted photographers, Ram Rahman has shown his photographs in individual and group shows across the country and around the world. Recently, he has also been lecturing on aspects of contemporary Indian photography at The Bhau Daji Lad Museum (Mumbai), Jnanapravah (Mumbai), and MoMA (New York).
Ram Rahman is one of the founding members of the Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (SAHMAT) in New Delhi, a leader in the resistance to communal and sectarian forces in India through its public cultural action. He is co-curator of the Sahmat retrospective exhibition which opened at the Smart Museum, University of Chicago in February 2013. Ramdas and Aparna Padhye
For the last three decades, Ramdas Padhye has been pursuing with devotion, the almost extinct ancient art of ventriloquism and allied arts. He has given the traditional Indian Puppets and Ventriloquial dolls a technological edge by upgrading them to international standards without losing their Indian identity and universal appeal. Ramdas Padhye has performed more than 9000 shows in India and abroad and contributed for the spread of this art of ventriloquism and for its acceptance as an effective medium for the propagation of various social messages.
He received the formal training in the art of ventriloquism and the use of talking puppets from his father late Prof. Y. K. Padhye, who was the pioneer exponent of the art of ventriloquism in India. Ramdas Padhye dispelled the western influence on this art by indianising the puppets and the themes, which found ready acceptance among masses.
Ramdas Padhye is Science Graduate and a Mechanical Engineer from India's reputed educational Institute V. J. T. I., Mumbai, and has successfully experimented with this performing art to resurrect the art and widen its horizons. His significant contribution to the art of ventriloquism and puppetry received international recognition when he was invited in 1979 to represent his country at the International Ventriloquists Convention in Cincinnati, U.S.A. Thus Ramdas Padhye became the first and the only Indian ventriloquist to be so honoured. He has also represented India at the World Festival of Puppet Arts in Prague in 2006 where he won the Best Traditional Puppetry Award for the show of 150-year-old Indian Puppets which he resurrected after a research of 20 years.
In 1992, he established Ramdas Padhye Foundation, a public Charitable Trust, for the resurgence and propagation of art of ventriloquism and allied arts such as puppetry. He has also established these arts as not meant only for entertainment but also the means of earning livelihood by pursuing an off-beat and exciting profession of ventriloquism and puppetry.

Ramu Ramanathan is a playwright-director who says he has penned more plays than he should have! His list of well-known plays includes Cotton 56, Polyester 84; Jazz; Comrade Kumbhakarna; and more recently, Postcards from Bardoli, and Ambu and Rajalakshmi. Besides these, he has penned the docu-drama 3, Sakina Manzil and youthful plays like Curfew; Yaar, What's The Capital Of Manipur, Combat, as well as one-act plays for inter-collegiate competitions in Mumbai and radio plays for AIR.
Ramanathan's best work is with young people and non-theatre persons. The playwright-director has written and directed children's plays for Little Prithvi Players including The Boy Who Stopped Smiling and Medha And Zoombish; and later, Time To Tell A Tale based on the Yuva Katha stories, and Medha And Zoombish II.
He also staged Vaikom Mohammed Basheer's Me Grandad 'Ad An Elephant, and Marguerite Duras' L'amante Anglaise (both with university students). He has directed the work of absurdists like Beckett, Ionesco, Genet, Havel, as well as Chekov, Ibsen and Miller for the stage.
Like his guru, Johann Alois Senefelder (the German playwright who invented lithography), Ramanathan has been associated with the world of printing. He was the editor of PT Notes, a monthly theatre newsletter produced by Prithvi Theatre (Mumbai), for ten years. He co-edited e-STQ (Seagull Theatre Quarterly), and has written columns about Mumbai for national dailies.
Randhir Khare is an award-winning poet, folklorist, writer, artist and teacher with more than thirty volumes of poetry, fiction, translations, essays and educational books to his name. His work has been adapted for contemporary puppet theatre performances, set to music by A.R. Rahman and translated into French, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi and Bulgarian.
He has archived the poetry and folkloric traditions of the Bhil, Bhilala, Kota, Toda, Nari Kurava, Katkari and other tribal communities and documented traditional sacred spaces in the Dangs, Alirajpur and the Nilgiris. A film, The World in a Story, based on his story-telling folkloric work, has just been released. He has founded the Living Heitage Movement which supports traditional performing artists.
More recently, he founded Mystic, the poetry-music band which has already performed several concerts of his poetry and vocals. Randhir Khare is also the Director of Gyaan Adab, Pune's premier community cultural centre.

Ranjit Hoskote is a poet, cultural theorist and curator. His collections of poetry include Central Time(Penguin, 2014), Vanishing Acts: New & Selected Poems 1985-2005(Penguin, 2006) and, in German translation, Die Ankunft der Vogel(Carl Hanser Verlag, 2006) and Feldnotizen des Magiers(Edition Offenes Feld, 2015). His translation of the 14th-century Kashmiri mystic Lal Ded has been published as I, Lalla: The Poems of Lal Ded (Penguin Classics, 2011).
Hoskote has been active as an independent curator since 1993, and has curated or co-curated 30 exhibitions of contemporary art. He was curator of India's first-ever stand-alone national pavilion at the Venice Biennale, titled Everyone Agrees: It's About to Explode(2011). With Okwui Enwezor and Hyunjin Kim, Hoskote co-curated the 7th Gwangju Biennale (Korea, 2008). Hoskote was co-convenor, with Maria Hlavajova, Boris Groys and Kathrin Rhomberg, of the exhibition-conference platform Former West Congress: Documents, Constellations, Prospects (Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin, 2013).

Ratna Pathak Shah is a theatre person, actress, and an educator.
Ratna Pathak Shah studied at the National School of Drama, New Delhi. She has played leading parts in several plays in English, Hindustani and Gujarati like The Lesson, Silence! The Court is in Session, Don Juan in Hell, Jasma Odan, The Misunderstanding, Ismat Apa ke Naam, Dear Liar, Arms and the Man and Antigone. On Television, she has acted in long running serials like Idhar Udhar, Tara, Filmi Chakkar and Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai. Her film work includes Heat and Dust, Mandi, Mirch Masala , Perfect Murder ,What If...., Jane tu ya jane na and Golmal 3. She is a founder-member of Motley, a theatre company.
She has also directed plays for children and young people in schools and community centers. She has recently directed A Walk In the Woods, a play on the Indo-Pak relationship.
As part of the Core Team of the Avehi-Abacus Project, she has been involved in producing Sangati a series of 6 Teaching - Learning Kits for children in schools and Non-Formal Education centers, as well as Manthan, a 2-year programme for teacher trainees and Saath Saath a kit on gender for schools.
Ratna Pathak Shah and Simantini Dhuru
RATNA PATHAK SHAH is an actress with an interest in education, working with the Avehi Abacus Project since its inception. She is a founder member of Motley, a theatre company in Mumbai, which performs plays in Hindustani and English. She has also acted in some films and TV shows and has directed plays for children and adults, conducting acting training workshops with schools and community centres.
SIMANTINI DHURU is a documentary film maker with many awards to her credit. She began working with the Avehi Abacus Project in 1991. She has been a member of several State and National policy making bodies and has contributed her Avehi Abacus experiences to modify and improve school and teacher education curriculum. She is actively involved in various human rights and environmental movements as a media activist and documentary filmmaker.
Ravindra Kumar G.
G. Ravindra Kumar obtained his Ph.D. in 1990 from IIT Kanpur. He has been at TIFR since 1992 and is presently a Senior Professor in the Department of Nuclear and Atomic Physics. He is interested in experimental studies of high intensity laser pulse interaction with matter, creation and understanding of extreme states of matter and nonlinear optics. He works across disciplines, loves anything to do with lasers and often wonders about the basic aspects of light.
He has received the S S Bhatnagar award for Physical Sciences in 2003, the B.M. Birla Prize for Physics in 2000, an 'Outstanding Investigator' award in 2006 and a J C Bose Fellowship in 2010. He is a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Science Academy.

Reena Saini Kallat (b. 1973, Delhi, India) is an artist based in Mumbai, best known for her multi-media installations. She graduated from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1996 with a B.F.A. in painting. She is deeply interested in the role that memory plays, in not only what we choose to remember but how we think of the past, often making historical references in her work. Kallat frequently works with officially recorded or registered names of people, objects and monuments that are lost or have disappeared, only to get listed as anonymous and forgotten statistics. Her more recent series using salt as a medium explores the tenuous yet intrinsic relationship between the body and the oceans highlighting the fragility and unpredictability of existence.
She was chosen as the first recipient of the ZegnArt Public Award, launched by the Italian Ermenegildo Zegna Group in 2012, in collaboration with the Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Mumbai. Riyas Komu is a multi-media artist and curator working towards developing and strengthening the art ecosystem, art infrastructure and art education in India. He co-founded and co-curated Kochi-Muziris Biennale in 2012 featuring 89 artists from 23 countries. He has since been its Director of Programmes. He curated the inaugural edition of Young Subcontinent, featuring artists from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal, at the Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa in 2016.
His works have been exhibited extensively in India and abroad. His works derive energy from social movements and are part of the larger narrative of the making and unmaking of artistic influences in society and draws from the cultural history of Kerala and India.
In 2007 he was one of two artists from India to be selected by curator Robert Storr for the 52nd Venice Biennale, He was also part of the Iran pavilion at Venice Biennale 2015. His works have been exhibited in the Jogja Biennale, Indonesia, Yinchuan Biennale, GEM Museum for Contemporary Art (The Hague, The Netherlands, 2009), The Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art (Oslo, Norway, 2009), The Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art (Shanghai, China, 2009) and the Gwangju Emerging Asian Artists Exhibition (Gwangju, Korea, 2010). He worked with the national football teams of India and Iraq and his works were shown at the Tel Aviv Museum of art in 2010, and at the Paris-Delhi-Bombay exhibition in 2012 at the Centre Pompidou, Paris. In 2012 he co-curated football film festivals at the International Film Festival of India, Goa and at the International Film Festival of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.
First a PhD in Physics, then work in Chemistry and finally research in Biology - Prof. Roop Mallik's journey in science has been a truly fascinating one. Today, he works in the broad area of Biophysics at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. His laboratory researches and work on how nanoscale motor proteins generate tiny forces inside our body by using laser light. Apart from his love for motor proteins, Prof Mallik also loves hiking in the mountains and in fortresses, and is fascinated by abandoned places and structures.
Lokshahir Sambhaji Bhagat, is a poet, singer and perhaps among the most prominent Dalit protest musicians in Maharashtra today. His plays Shivaji Underground in Bhimnagar Mohalla and more recently, Bombay-17, based on the lives of people living in Dharavi slum area have highlighted the seen and unseen legacy of Ambedkar politics in India. Very recently, "Court" the debut film by Chaitanya Tamhane for which Sambhaji has composed the music and sung the songs, has been sweeping most of the international film awards. Sambhaji also teaches History at Sadhana Vidyalaya in Sion, Mumbai.
Sampurna Chattarji is a poet, novelist, translator and children's author. Her thirteen books include four poetry titles: The Scorpion (e-single, Harper21, 2013), Absent Muses (Poetrywala, 2010), The Fried Frog (Scholastic, 2009), Sight May Strike You Blind (Sahitya Akademi, 2007); two novels, Rupture (2009) and Land of the Well (2012), both from HarperCollins; and her short-story collection about Bombay/Mumbai, Dirty Love (Penguin, 2013). Numerous anthology appearances include 60 Indian Poets (Penguin); The Bloodaxe Book of Contemporary Indian Poets; The HarperCollins Book of English Poetry and The Literary Review Indian Poetry Issue. Sampurna is the editor of Sweeping the Front Yard, an anthology of women's writing. Her poetry has been translated into German, Swiss-German, Welsh, Scots, French, Gaelic, Estonian, Arabic, Portuguese, Frisian, Tamil, Manipuri, Kannada, Bangla and Bambaiyya; and her children's fiction into Welsh and Icelandic. In 2012, she was the Charles Wallace writer-in-residence at the University of Kent, Canterbury. Selected Poems (Harper Perennial, 2014), her translation of the Bengali poet Joy Goswami's work, was shortlisted for the inaugural Khushwant Singh Memorial Prize for Poetry.
Prof. Sandeep Juneja is an applied probabilist who spends a great deal of time working on random walks. He not only walks the random walk but also, as the participants will see, talks the random talk. His other research interest includes queuing and he has lately focused on modeling queue arrivals as a strategic game between users. He also works on modelling financial and insurance tail risk.
Sandeep did his B. Tech. from IIT Delhi in Mechanical Engineering in 1989. He did his Masters in Statistics and PhD in Operations Research both from Stanford University in 1993. He worked with a finance insurance firm American Credit Indemnity in Baltimore from 1993 to 95 and then with Andersen Consulting in India as a management consultant till 1996. In 1997 he returned to academia and joined IIT Delhi as a faculty. He has been at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research since 2003.
Sandeep has held visiting positions at Stanford University, Columbia University and Indian School of Business. On leave from TIFR, he headed quantitative operations for Bank of America in India in 2008. Last few months he has been visiting a research wing, CAFRAL, of Reserve Bank of India.
Sandesh Bhandare focuses his lens to artistically express the agony and ecstasy of human life. His photographs illuminate the distinct character of things that would otherwise appear mundane and lifeless. While brilliantly portraying the exterior, his photographs reveal the deep interior of the subject and propel the beholder to interpret it in an entirely new light. Sandesh's photographs have not only been appreciated as works of art but have also been acclaimed for their social relevance. He is also the author of four very well-received books namely Puneri Brahmin, Tamasha - Ek Rangdi Gammat, Wari - Ek Anandayatra and Asa Hi Ek Maharashtra (Marathi).
In 2013, Sandesh Bhandare completed a full-length feature film, Mhadu, based on a short story by Mahashweta Devi, which he has scripted and directed.
Sandhya Sanjana has always experienced music in all its diverse richness. She has listened to, imbibed and created music, drawing from different streams. Sandhya has Hindustani classical singing as her base and is one of the first Indian singers to have experimented with fusing Indian classical vocals with various other western contemporary styles. Sanjna Kapoor is well known across India for her work in promoting theatre. She built Prithvi Theatre into India's finest cultural hub, and has consistently been an innovator and fore-runner in her work with theatre. She was the first to introduce workshops to Mumbai under the Summertime programme, and has also regularly presented the best of Indian and world theatre in India. In 2006, she initiated the India Theatre Forum network for theatre practitioners. In 2011, she left Prithvi Theatre to co-found Junoon, to take her love and passion for theatre to more people across India, with a deep focus on young people.

Satish Alekar has been practicing theatre on the Marathi stage since 1970. He is the author of various well-loved plays like Mahanirvan, Micky Ani Memsahib, Mahapoor, Doosra Samana, Begum Barve, and Shaniwar-Raviwar. Many of these have been translated and produced in several regional languages all over India. His plays Mahanirvan (1974) and Begum Barve (1979) established a new idiom in Marathi theatre, with his unique use of dark humour, language and absurdity to convey the oblique sense of reality. Satish Alekar is one of the founder members of Theater Academy, Pune.
He recently completed his new full-length play Pidhijat (Dynasts), which was staged in Bengali in Kolkata (April 2003) and in Marathi in Pune, (May 2003). He was presented with a prestigious award for this particular piece from the Maharashtra Foundation.
Satish Alekar has received several National and State awards for his contribution to the field of Theatre and Literature. He scripted the National Award winning Marathi feature film Jait Re Jait in 1977 and directed a Hindi T.V. Serial in 13 parts Dekho Magar Pyarse for Doordarshan. He also scripted the dialogues for the Marathi feature film, Katha Don Ganpatravanchi, produced by N.F.D.C. in 1995-96.
Satish Alekar continuously collaborates with several international translation projects. He effortlessly translates and directs short plays by playwrights from across the globe.
Savitri Medhatul is a Mumbai-based documentary filmmaker. After receiving a Diploma in Civil Engineering and graduating in Business Management from Mumbai University, she completed post-graduation in Social Communication Media.
Savitri directed and produced her first documentary film on lavani dancers (women folk dancers from Maharashtra, India) called Natale Tumchyasathi.. Behind the Adorned Veil in 2008. She has also collaborated on various national and international projects.
Her work touches upon varied social topics such as farmer suicides, water distribution in Mumbai, Bene Israeli (Jewish community from Maharashtra), rickshaw drivers in Mumbai and more. She has even collaborated with Dr. Mathew Gandi from University College of London for a film project on water distribution and its issues in Mumbai called Liquid City.
Savitri received a two-year fellowship (2012-14) from the Social Science Research Council, New York for research and making video projects on Pentecostal Christians in Mumbai.
An active member of the Mumbai theatre circuit, Savitri has worked with acclaimed people like, Sunil Shanbag, Akarsh Khurana, Vaman Kendre, and Geetanjali Kulkarni.
In 2015, Savitri and Bhushan Korgaonkar (colleague and co-producer of Natale Tumchyasathi) designed a theatre production, Sangeet Bari. This production is based on their research and the book written by Bhushan Korgaonkar. The show reflects on the tradition of Sangeet Bari, Lavani and the lives of Lavani women. It also includes live performances of some of the unknown Lavani songs by veteran Lavani artists. Savitri Medhatul also conducts lecture-demonstrations and Lavani workshops along with Bhushan and other members of the Sangeet Bari team.
Architect turned musician Sawan Dutta has been creating music professionally for over two decades. Her commercial work includes music for Bollywood feature films, over 200 TV shows such as the ongoing KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati), documentaries, ads, jingles, albums, installation soundscapes and theatres (her score for Dadi Pudumjee's Transpositions received the META Best Soundtrack for Theatre award). She is currently known for her pathbreaking Song Vlog, The Metronome, on YouTube. Perhaps the only Vlog of its kind, The Metronome, which now has over a million views, features Sawan writing, composing, producing and singing her original songs about her everyday experiences, trivial and profound. Many of its songs, like Macher Jhol, Ode to Boroline and The Pet Pujo Song have gone viral on the net.
Shafaat khan is uniquely known for his black humour and socio-political satire through plays like Mumbaiche kawle and Shobhayatra. He deals with most contemporary themes related to modern human society with its depressing, suffocating, anguish hypocrisy, corruption and frightening fear for existence and decadence of human values.
As a writer of plays that are full of sharp wit and social concern, he has been one of the leading experimentalists of his generation. Shafaat Khan has been associated with theatre for the past 40 years, and has been teaching theatre for more than 14 years. He has conducted various playwriting workshops all over India including National School of Drama and other universities.

Shanta Gokhale is a bilingual writer, novelist, playwright, translator and performing arts, culture critic and editor. Her first stint as editor was with Femina where she created a two-page section called Literati, comprising fiction by women. Some of it was written originally in English and some translated from other Indian languages. Her next stint as editor was designing and running the arts page for the Times of India. In recent times she has edited three books on theatre: "Satyadev Dubey: A Fifty-year Journey Through Theatre", The Theatre of Veenapani Chawla: Theory, Practice, Performance and "The Scenes We Made: An Oral History of Experimental Theatre in Mumbai". She has written two novels in Marathi both of which won the State award in their respective years of publication. She has written a critical history of Marathi Theatre, "Playwright at the Centre". She has also written plays and scripts for feature and documentary films. She has been writing a culture column for Mumbai Mirror since 2006. In 2016 she received the Sangit Natak Akademi award for overall contribution to the performing arts. She also received the Jambhekar Shastri award for her translation into Marathi of Jerry Pinto's "Em and the Big Hoom"
Shernaz Patel & Burjor Patel
Theatre to Burjor Patel was a passion right from his college days. After completing his law degree in the early 1950s, he met the theatre icon Adi Marzban and began acting in his Gujarati comedies. He starting with bit roles, and graduated to playing the lead opposite three of Adi's leading ladies, one of whom, Ruby Patel, he married in 1959. He parted ways with Adi after 12 years to pursue his own career. He joined the Indian National Theatre (INT) and launched a Parsi theatre wing, adding to their already thriving Gujarati theatre. This partnership lasted 10 years during which the Parsi theatre wing earned great repute amongst the entire Gujarati theatre community. Burjor also challenged the popular belief that Parsi plays had to be naughty comedies. He produced a taut courtroom drama and a suspense thriller.
In the 1980s he launched his own company, Burjor Patel Productions, under which he staged nearly a dozen Gujarati plays. When he saw an opening for a regular weekend English Theatre, he joined hands with his old mentor Adi Marzban. He then launched Adi Marzban-Burjor Patel Productions and the English theatre scene changed overnight, with crowds flocking during weekends to witness their plays. Later he joined hands with Hosi Vasunia inviting directors like Pearl Padamsee and Vijay Crishna and continuing to stage popular plays.
He then decided to stage English plays under his own banner inviting new talent, both actors and directors. He also wanted to break new ground by staging plays like 'NUTS', 'SHADOW BOX', 'THE SUBJECT WAS ROSES' etc. which were not necessarily box office sureties. He even invited Bharat Dabholkar to pen a topical musical revue. BOTTOMS UP was born, breaking all box office records. The play and its sequels ran for over 200 shows.
Aside from the theatre, he had a parallel career in the newspaper industry. He started as a manager of the advertisement department at Jame-Jamshed, went on to become assistant advertisement manager at The Times of India and then Branch Manager at The Statesman. During this time, he was also elected as the President of The Advertising Club - India's largest professional body for the advertising fraternity. He later joined Khaleej Times, UAE's leading English daily from where he retired in 2009 as Senior Vice President, Strategy and New Initiatives. Highly respected by the fraternity he was elected to the Board of the International Advertising Association, Dubai Chapter.
Burjor returned to India post retirement and recently put together the fabulous revue LAUGHTER IN THE HOUSE, which brought together all of Parsi Gujarati theatre's iconic stars. He now writes a weekly column for the DNA, titled LIFE BEGINS AT 80; is busy planning the sequel to LAUGHTER as well as a one-act play theatre competition to unearth fresh Parsi talent.
Shernaz Patel has been a part of English theatre in India for the past 30 years. Starting with The Diary Of Anne Frank in 1984, she went on to play leading roles in such milestone plays as Letters to My Daughter, Antigone, Nuts, Six Degrees Of Separation, Blackbird (META Award for Best Actress, 2010) Molly Sweeney, Breathe In Breathe Out, Class of '84 and Love Letters. Her recent theatre work includes The God of Carnage, The Siddhus of Upper Juhu, The Glass Menagerie,One On One and Hard Places (a UK-India collaboration). She is a partner in one of India's leading theatre companies, Rage and has been the driving force behind Writers' Bloc, which promotes new playwriting in India.
Aside from theatre, she has also been successfully acting in Indian cinema and television since the 1980's. Her films include Roy, Guzaarish, I Am, Little Zizou, Rockstar, Lamha, Talaash and Black. She has won the Screen Award (Best Supporting Actress) for Guzaarish and recently the Goa State award (Best Actress) for the Konkani film O Maria. A Charles Wallace scholar, she holds a Masters degree in Acting from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. She is also an established voiceover artist, with over 1000 commercials, corporate films and audio books to her credit. Also a teacher, she currently heads the acting department at India's premiere film school, Whistling Woods International.
Prof. Shiraz Minwalla is a Professor at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Born in Mumbai, he did his schooling in Campion School and junior college from St. Xavier's College. He completed his undergraduate education at IIT Kanpur, receiving the President's Gold Medal upon graduation. Prof. Minwalla then moved on to Princeton University where he completed his PhD under the guidance of Prof. Nathan Seiberg. He went on to join Harvard as a Junior Fellow of the Harvard Society of Fellows and, in 2001, he joined the faculty at Harvard in the department of physics. Prof. Minwalla taught at Harvard till 2006, after which he moved back to Mumbai.
Prof Minwalla's research revolves around the study of gravity, quantum field theories, string theory and their interconnection via the AdS/CFT correspondence. Through his research, he hopes eventually to better understand the quantum structure of space and time. Prof Minwalla's work has been recognized by many awards including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award, the Infosys award, the IIT Kanpur Distinguished Alumni Award (India), the ICTP prize (Italy), the New Horizons Prize (USA), the Nishina Asia Award (Japan) and the TWAS award (World Academy of Sciences).
Born into a musically dedicated family, Shubha Mudgal has been trained by some of the finest musicians and musicologists in India. Trained by Pandit Ram Ashreya Jha from whom she continued to receive instruction till 2009, Shubha also received the guidance of Pandit Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya and Pandit Vasant Thakar. She went on to learn stylistic techniques from well-known maestros Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki and Pandit Kumar Gandharva. She also received training in thumri from Smt. Naina Devi and is thus one of the most versatile and popular performers of Hindustani music.
In addition to being a performer, Shubha has also won recognition as a composer. Her repertoire of medieval mystic and Sufi poetry includes rarely heard texts from the Vaishnava Pushti-marg poets, as well as the Nirguna poetry of Kabir, Namdev, Amir Khusrau, Nath-panthi poets and other Sufiana poetry.
She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Padma Shri from the Government of India in the year 2000.

Prof. Shubha Tole received her BSc in Life Sciences and Biochemistry from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai in 1987. Her MSc and PhD are from Caltech, USA. She worked at the University of Chicago as a post-doctoral fellow, and then joined the Tata Institute in Mumbai as a faculty member in 1999.
Shubha Tole has been awarded the Infosys prize for Life Sciences (2014), the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in 2010; the Research Award for Innovation in Neurosciences (RAIN) by the Society for Neuroscience in 2008, which is given for innovative work regardless of age or nationality. She received the National Woman Bioscientist award by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India (2008), the Swarnajayanti Fellowship (a prestigious young scientist award) by the Department of Science in Technology, Govt. of India (2005), and the Wellcome Trust Senior International Fellowship (1999).
She also has several publications in leading international journals. She has offered workshops on 'Ethics in Science' on both national and international fora. She actively engages in public outreach via workshops in schools and colleges, and encourages her students to do the same.

Sitanshu Yashashchandra Mehta
Sitanshu Yashaschandra is among contemporary Gujarati literature's most eminent representatives. A much celebrated poet and playwright, he is also a critical theorist, translator and academic. His creative, critical and academic work has received wide critical acclaim in India and elsewhere. He has received National Sahitya Akademi Award (1987); Rashtriya Kabir Samman, (Madhya Pradesh); Gangadhar Maher Samman (Orissa), Kavi Kusumagraj National Award (Maharashtra), 2013, National Harmony Award (New Delhi), Also, Ranjeetram Suvarna Chandrak (Ahmedabad) (1987) and Narmad Suvarna Chandrak (Surat) (2002), Gujarat Gaurav Award (2014).
He has been invited to read his poems and plays internationally at places like Paris, Berlin, Frankfurt, Moscow, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and many more. In India, he has read extensively across the country, including Delhi, Jaipur, Shimla, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Guwahati, Patna and Bangalore.
A Fulbright Scholar and a Ford West European Fellowship recipient, Yashaschandra has a Doctorate in Comparative Literature from USA and another Doctorate in Indian poetic from Mumbai. He worked as Vice Chancellor (Saurashtra University), UGC Emeritus Professor and National Lecturer, as well as Chief Editor of the Encyclopaedia of Indian Literature (Sahitya Akademi).
He has taught, as Professor and Chair of Gujarati, at the M. S. University of Baroda, from 1972, and has been a visiting Professor at the Sorbonne University (Paris), University of Pennsylvania, the Loyola Marymount University (Los Angeles), and Jadavpur University (Kolkata).

Sonali's work spans 25 Plays, 60 ad films and 70 feature films, including films in Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu and even Italian. Sonali has successfully and steadfastly found her niche in Hindi commercial Cinema, international Cinema, regional Cinema as well as in theatre for last two decades. She has won numerous national and international Awards and accolades for her performances from time to time; her Gujarati film The Good Road was selected as India's official entry to the Oscars in 2013.
Sonali is also a dedicated writer, and was the guest editor with Loksatta-Indian Express group for 5 years. Her latest avatar has been as a producer for the play White Lily Aani Night Rider, in which she plays the main lead. It is a must-see play which is running to packed houses.

Sreelaja Nair was born and raised in Bombay and her formal training is in Microbiology. She forayed into investigative biological research trying to understand how fruit flies recognized odours, and realized quickly that she was more intrigued by how entire embryos formed from a single, tiny cell. She joined the University of California, Irvine in 2001 for a PhD and later in 2008 moved to the University of Wisconsin, Madison for post-doctoral research. After 12 years in the USA, Sreelaja moved back to India in 2012 to start her independent research group at TIFR-Mumbai. Her lab continues to use her long term muse, the zebrafish embryo, to try and understand the information coded into that first cell that directs the morphing of that single cell into a complex three dimensional organism.
In addition to being a scientist, Sreelaja is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. She has performed extensively in Wisconsin and Chicago and used to teach Bharatanatyam in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as part of the Natyarpana Dance Company.
K. Subramaniam is Associate Professor of mathematics education at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai, India. His main area of work for the last decade and a half is research on how the learning and teaching of school mathematics can be improved. He works with school children to understand how they learn mathematics and with teachers to explore what it takes to teach mathematics better. He is the author of a textbook and teachers' book of the Homi Bhabha Curriculum for mathematics for Class 3. He has been a member of various committees at the National level, and recently chaired the group which developed the new curriculum and syllabus for mathematics for Maharashtra state.
He has a B.Tech in Aeronautical engineering and an M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy. He uses his background in philosophy to understand education, which is one of the most complex areas of our collective existence.
Sudhanva Deshpande has been with Jana Natya Manch (Janam) since 1987. He has acted in, directed, and helped evolve dozens of street plays, numbering a few thousand performances. With Sanjay Maharishi, Sudhanva has directed two documentary films on Habib Tanvir and Naya Theatre.
He is a core team member of the India Theatre Forum, as well as its capacity-building training programme, SMART (Strategic Management in the Art of Theatre). He has held teaching positions at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi.
He has taught, led workshops, lectured and performed in several countries. He works as editor with LeftWord Books and uses the bicycle as his default mode of personal transportation in Delhi.
A keen observer of life and all its wonderful details, Sudhir Patwardhan is an artist, and an occasional writer and lecturer on art. He has been a curator focusing on introducing new audiences to contemporary art. His work has been exhibited regularly in India and abroad in the past thirty years. Recent participations include Kochi Biennale, 2014-2015; 'Seven Decades of Indian Drawing' at IGNCA, New Delhi; Modernist Art from India, Rubin Museum, New York. 2012; 'Social Fabric' at INIVA, London; and IFA -Galerie Stuttgart, Germany, 2013; and a one person show 'Route Maps' at The Guild and Jehangir Art Gallery in 2012.
A monograph on his work, 'The Complicit Observer' written by Ranjit Hoskote, was published in 2004. This was followed in 2007 by another book by Ranjit Hoskote on his drawings called 'The Crafting of Reality'.

Prof. Sudipta Maiti pursued his undergraduate studies at IIT Kanpur, and then obtained a Ph.D. in Biophysics in 1994 from the University of Pennsylvania. He subsequently joined Cornell University to work in the laboratory of Prof. Watt Webb, who was at that time developing some revolutionary new microscopy techniques. Prof. Maiti joined the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in 1998, where he is currently a Professor of Chemical Sciences.
He uses spectroscopy and microscopy as the primary tools of his research. His current research interest spans several different fields, namely, protein aggregation (which is related to diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's), chemical neurotransmission (which is related to the molecular basis of drug addiction), and development of new optical tools for studying biology.
When he is not busy in his lab, he loves to promote scientific exchange between fellow scientists and students. He does this through several initiatives including the Fluorescence Society, the National Photonics Fellowship program, and a science club of the Mumbai-Pune region called 'Biophysics Pashchim'
Suman Mukhopadhyay is an acclaimed fimmaker and theatre director. His work in both the fields has been recognised and celebrated both at the national as well as international level. Social commentary and political insights have a significant influence on his art.
Suman has worked extensively in both theatre and film, with an extremely diverse portfolio that ranges from European drama to modern films to adaptations of Bengali masterpieces. His cinematic directorial debut film was Herbert (2005), which won him the National Award for Best Bengali film. His second film Chaturanga, based on Tagore's novel, was completed in 2008 and premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival. Chaturanga was screened in 36 national and international festivals. The film received a Grand Prix award at Bridgefest, Sarajevo, the Best Director award at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival and the Golden Palm at Mexico International Film Festival. His other films have also garnered an audience across the world.
In theatre, Suman has directed for both the Indian and international stage. He has worked in esteemed institutions like the University of California and the Kalamazoo College, Michigan. Some of his well-known works include Raja Lear, Sunyo Sudhu Sunyo Noy, Bisarjan, Teesta Paarer Brittanto, The Man of the Heart (Life and times of Lalon Fokir) and Fireface.
Born in 1960, Sunil Gawde graduated from the J.J. School of Art in 1980. Despite his art education, Gawde chose to take a job at the Bombay Port Trust, where he worked until 1995. Through his tenure at the Port Trust, he remained alive to his surroundings, incorporating Bombay's dockyards and wharves into his paintings. The peeling layers of paint on a ship's helm, for instance, echoed his own philosophy of the canvas as palimpsest: "That is the logic of my paintings," said Gawde, "to strip the overlayers partially, so that earlier histories may be revealed."
Gawde's working methods share as much with craft as with the fine arts. When applying paint, he uses the trowels and scrapers used by masons and house-painters. These implements give his pigments a layered depth; paints are piled and cut, creating dynamically textured surfaces.
Sunil Kothari is a leading dance historian, scholar, author and critic, based in New Delhi. He has authored more than 18 books on Indian classical dances and related arts, including Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Manipuri, Odissi, Chhau Dances of India, Kuchipudi, Sattriya Dances of Assam, a photo biography of Uday Shankar and Rukmini Devi, New Directions In Indian dance and Dance in Retrospect. In addition to these, he is currently writing his autobiography.
Sunil Kothari was a dance critic of The Times of India Group of Publications for 40 years. He has been honoured with many prestigious awards for his contribution to the field of dance over the years. These include the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the Padma Shri by the President of India, and a Life Time Achievement award from Dance Critics' Association, New York.
As a professor, Sunil Kothari was a part time lecturer in accountancy at Sydenham College, Professor and Head of Department of Dance at Rabindra Bharati Univeristy, Kolkata, and Professor and Dean at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, JNU, New Delhi.
Sunil Shanbag is a Mumbai-based theatre director and producer, and the artistic director of the Arpana theatre company. He uses strong original texts, innovative staging techniques and powerful performances to make his theatre exciting and meaningful in today's times.
His production of Ramu Ramnathan's COTTON 56, POLYESTER 84 looked at the history of Mumbai's textile mills through the eyes of two mill workers. In 2010 his SEX, MORALITY AND CENSORSHIP developed in collaboration with writers Shanta Gokhale and Irawati Karnik introduced audiences to a contemporary "documentary theatre" style.
STORIES IN A SONG developed with eminent musicians Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan brings a ethnographic approach to Indian music history. His Gujarati adaptation of Shakespeare's All's Well That Ends Well for the prestigious Globe to Globe International Shakespeare theatre festival in London in 2012, placed the original play within the history of the Gujarati mercantile community. More recently he worked with the Theater Freiburg, Germany, on a theatre production of Kiran Nagarkar's book, God's Little Soldier.
Sunil's wider interests in theatre has seen him engage intensively in training, theatre in education, research, developing new and alternative performance venues in the city, writing on theatre, and mentoring young theatre directors, and writers. Sunil is also an award winning documentary filmmaker with several independent films to his credit. His interest in history has seen him work closely with museum designers towards a contemporary approach to historical narratives.
Sushama Deshpande is an exceptionally brilliant communicator, who gives a voice to the rebel within using theatre as a medium. Gifted with clear sense of independence and deep sense of social responsibility, she applies theatre as tool for her own expression.

Sushama Tai has been in the field of theatre for over 40 years - writing, directing and performing. She believes in theatre journalism and enjoys presenting strong women personalities in theatre. Her most iconic play is 'Whay Mi Savitribai', based on the life of social reformer, Savitribai Phule. Sushama Tai has also written and directed a play on the women saints of Maharashtra, 'Baya Daar Ughad', which is about the deep feminist thinking of the 13th to 18th C poets of Maharashtra.
Her other works includes two plays with Sangali sex workers, 'My Mother The Gharwali, her Malak and his wife' and 'Ham aur Tum Sab'; a play with the LGBT community, 'To Tee Te ....He, She, It.....'; and 'Chitragoshti', a play based on Dr. Sudhir Patwardhan's paintings. Sushama Tai has also edited Dalit writer, Urmila Pawar's autobiography, 'Aaydaan' and directed a play based on the same. She has learned Theatre of Oppressed techniques with late Augusto Boal.
Swanand Kirkire is multifaceted artist who has worked in theatre and film, donning many hats as a songwriter, actor, director, singer, lyricist.
Swanand has won several awards for his lyrics and acts in Aranya's play Colour Blind.
Terence Lewis has trained extensively in Indian and western dance disciplines, both in India and abroad and is based in his favorite, chaotic city of dream- Mumbai. Having mastered the fine art of Choreology and studying classical as well as contemporary dance techniques, both in Indian and western disciplines, under several masters. He now performs extensively, and teaches several students through his academy.
Utkarsh Mazumdar is a veteran of the stage. He has been doing theatre in English, Hindi and Gujarati for over 45 years. He is an actor, a singer and a director. His first Gujarati commercial play was in 1970 a musical called Hippy Hippy hurre Written by Abid Surti. He worked extensively with Satyadev Dubey.

Vehrnon was a salesman for his father's cardboard box factory when he was 17. He hated it but needed the money and well, this was his father. Clients were mostly the small bakeries Bangalore is famous for. Cold calls and regular clients, orders for different shaped boxes, numbers and sizes, a silk screen logo print here a cut and fold crease there then haggle over delivery schedules and of course - rates. He got paid plus commissions but it wasn't now he wanted to earn. Vehrnon wanted to believe in what he was doing, use some unique skill of his own and create money out of that. So he decided - if by the time he hit 21 he was not living off his talent he would resign himself to selling boxes... Since then he has made a living as a Vice President of Programming for National FM Radio Networks, a House Music DJ, the Frontman of Indian Heavy Metal band Millennium, an Event Manager, an Audio Engineer both live and in studios, a Music Producer and Song Writer, a Stage and Lighting Designer, an Interactive Television Creative Director, a regular Columnist on Music and Creativity. Today he hosts Radio Shows, is a Founder Director of Fanagig (committed to bringing music artists and their passionate fans together for awesome live music experiences) and HOD Music Business & Entrepreneurship at the True School of Music. So as it turned out, Vehrnon never did need to go back to making money out of boxes but he did end up making a lot of money out of the box...
Theatrewallah Vickram Kapadia was trained by Pearl Padamsee since the age of eight, and has been a part of the theatre community for almost 3 decades, as director, actor, writer and film maker.
In 1981 Vickram graduated from the Actors' Studio in Bombay. He continued to gain experience through workshops by overseas experts such as Peter Brook, Edward Argent, Janet Suzmann and others as well as from Indian stalwarts such as Habib Tanvir, Naseeruddin Shah, Satyadev Dubey and N. Muthuswamy.
He also believes that he was supported in many ways, both direct and oblique by his intensive education in dance. He has been a student of western classical ballet and ballroom dance for several years under Tushna Dallas. He has learnt tap dancing from Oscar Unger and has also had training in Jazz from Farida Pedder. His dance performances include "Life Force," a modern dance for the Bombay Arts Festival.
His several stage performances include THE GOOD DOCTOR (1984), EVAM INDRAJIT (1986), AS YOU LOVE IT (1987), THE CAINE MUTINY COURT MARTIAL (1993) and TUGHLAQ (1994). His directorial ventures include Pirandello's SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF AN AUTHOR (1987), AR Gurney's THE DINING ROOM (1989), Murray Schisgal's THE TYPISTS (1990) and Makrand Deshpande's MUSK MAIDEN (1999). Besides other plays, he has co-directed Shakespeare's Julius Caesar (1992) with Naseeruddin Shah.
Vickram is also one of the few contemporary playwrights writing original Indian English plays. His BLACK WITH EQUAL (2002), a two-act black comedy is one of his best known plays. The play has been recently published by the Sahitya Akademi. In September 2002 he was invited by the Royal Court Theatre, London for a residential workshop for playwrights at Vasind.
In the area of light design too Vickram has had experience by lighting plays directed by Vijaya Mehta, Rahul Da Cunha, Naushil Mehta, Rehaan Engineer and others. In the summer of 2001 he toured the United States and Canada as a technical director for Vijaya Mehta's production of PURUSH. He says that his work in the allied art of stage lighting has further enhanced his understanding of stagecraft and theatre.
Vidita Vaidya was fascinated by the natural world as a kid through interactions with foxes, snakes and the occasional panther (at a safe distance!) that wandered into the green campus of Ciba-Geigy in Goregaon where she lived in the 70-80's. That interest soon morphed into a desire to understand the complexities of behavior and she found herself pursuing a degree in Life-Science and Biochemistry at St Xavier's College. She then moved to Yale to study Neuroscience for her PhD with Professor Ronald Duman and it was during this time that her love for studying neurocircuits that regulate emotion evolved. Her return to India was one continent at a time with a couple of years at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden and at the University of Oxford, UK thrown in on her homeward journey. Since 2000, She has run her laboratory at TIFR with a focus towards understanding the neurocircuits that regulate emotion and how they are shaped by life-experiences, in particular those that occur during the early periods of life. Vidita has received funding from TIFR, the Wellcome Trust, DBT, DST, NIH-USA as well as industrial partnerships with Pfizer and Unilever. Experimental science is a social, collaborative process and the she humbly acknowledges that she has been immensely lucky to work with highly motivated graduate students and postdoctoral scientists over the years. The work of her team has been recognized by a National Bioscientist Award from the Department of Biotechnology in 2012 and a fellowship of the Indian National Science Academy.

Zubin Driver is a Mumbai based Playwright & theatre director. His work has been performed in mainstream & alternative spaces all over the city. In the early ninety nineties he experimented with new performance venues like Chemould Art Gallery, Jehangir Art Gallery and created theatrical experiences in people's living rooms. He has also performed regularly at NCPA, Prithvi Theatre, St Andrew's and other large venues over the years and is now very interested in developing new experimental venues and creating interesting workshop experiences.
