Indu Harikumar strongly believes in recycling everything, especially love. It started with volunteering with Mumbai Mobile Creches eight years ago, where she picked bottle caps, seedpods to create art and toys with children. Now she finds herself turning people's life experiences into art.
Indu has written and illustrated seven children's books and taught children through art. Her work has been exhibited at the Biennial of Illustrations, Bratislava in 2012, and the Kochi -Muziris Biennale and goes to Kunshtalle Bremen, Germany in July 2018.
In 2015, Indu was picked by vi knallgrau GmbH for an artist residency in Vienna where she created a digital graphic narrative about how her grandfather went to school despite being a low caste person. This is also where she first used Tinder and this lead to her crowdsourced art project #100IndianTinderTales, which has inspired many (women in particular) to overcome their inhibitions about discussing their sex lives.
The viral project got press, internet and radio coverage all over the world, including the BBC and has led her to create Body of Stories and other crowdsourced projects that deal with gender and sexuality, all through personal stories.
