Five Ways to Conceive a Painting

How do different things, thoughts, situations and people influence a painting? What are the ways a work of art can be conceived, constructed and created? Are they quick and spontaneous? Or slow and carefully thought through? How does an artist evolve and change with each of his works?

We are delighted to invite Sudhir Patwardhan - renowned contemporary painter - to Mumbai Local.

For Sudhir Patwardhan, anything can determine the nature of a painting - an old memory, a piece of literature, a strong emotion, an experience on the streets, even a passing suggestion. These are the 'seeds' of the creation and the way they are 'sown' determines the way Sudhir's work proceeds.

In this Mumbai Local, Sudhir Patwardhan will share with us five of his paintings and the fascinating stories behind them. He will take us through each of their journeys - the pleasures, the pains, the rich experiences that helped create them. He will also talk to us about how he channels his different energies and capabilities to complete his paintings and how that influences him as an artist.

Join us as we explore and understand how incredible works of arts come alive with real experiences.
