Sudharak Olwe is a social documentary photographer based in Mumbai. Since 1988, he has documented heart-rending stories and issues from around India. Starting out as press photographer in the city with leading newspapers such as Indian Express, Times of India and making a mark for himself in photojournalism, he then moved towards travel and documenting stories of courage and change throughout the country. In 2016, Sudharak was conferred the Padma Shri, India's 4th Highest Civilian Award by the President of India.
Born on March 19, 1966 in Akola, Maharashtra, Olwe moved to Mumbai shortly after high school. Passing out of Xavier's Institute of Communication and having studied at the JJ School of Arts,he joined the Free Press Journal in 1989 as a press photographer.
Sudharak's photography is that of empathy. It is a journey into the unseen perspective of the human condition. His photography cuts across all barriers and presents to you a moving story of individuals and communities.
