Born in the booktrade; Family business of Popular Book Depot, established in 1924, that has developed into the publishing house Popular Prakashan. A proud Elphinstonian, has a doctorate from the University of Mumbai on 'Gandhi and his Adversaries'. As a writer in Marathi has written extensively, particularly about relationships with the authors and artists. A major work is 'Mohanmaya' about Gandhi and his friends before 1915.

He has written 'Jagadamba' a play about Gandhi as seen by Kasturba. The play has been staged in Marathi and Hindi with Rohini Hattangadi and translated into English by Yashodhara Deshpande Maitra and staged in India and the USA. A Gujarati translation is likely to be staged soon. Has translated Gandhi's 'IndianĀ  Home Rule' into Marathi. A disciple of Sangeetacharya S.C.R.Bhat and now passing on the music legacy to the next generation. He has composed bandishes and written poems in Marathi. Was an active member of Group 77 formed to support democratic, socialist, secular movement and the founder president of Antarbharati Anuvaad Suvidha Kendra.
