SHAILI SATHYU AND GILLO REPERTORY THEATRE MEMBERS TAKING THEATRE TO CHILDREN: #GilloOnTheGo
If the mountain will not come to Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the mountain.
What do you do when you are a theatre group which has solely dedicated itself to making theatre for young audiences, and you realise that far too many children cannot make it to the theatre?
If you are Gillo, you take your theatre to these children. You create plays which can travel easily, you search out interested schools and organisations, you create a tour, you rent a bus, you find the money, and you just go to where these children are. You hold as your creed that arts and culture are a fundamental right, and that children - all children - must have this access, and you do whatever it takes to take theatre to them.
We are delighted to invite Shaili Sathyu - artist, traveller, erstwhile baker - and her team members from Gillo Repertory Theatre to Mumbai Local, to share with us their annual junoon-driven journey #GilloOnTheGo. We've asked them to tell us why they came up with the idea, how they've made it happen, what the interactions with the children are like, how it affects their theatre and their team - the content, the acting, the actors - and what they've got planned next. (They have a plan! Many plans!).
This is a Mumbai Local session for anyone who understands that when you touch children, you touch the future. Come listen to the wonderful Gillo team, who blend the stars in their eyes with a quintessentially theatre pragmatism, to make dreams come true, repeatedly.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday. Live attendance is best, but if you can't make it - we have live feed for you on our Facebook page.
This session was curated by Sanjna Kapoor.
RSVP for this session begins on Monday 25 March 2019.
