Ipsa Jain is a scientist by training and artist by spirit. She grew up as a teacher’s pet in school and college in Karnal and Delhi, respectively. The childhood aspiration of being a scientist drove her career goals. It was at the Indian Institute of Science, she practiced science and worked on cancer biology. Scientific pursuit aside, she identified herself during the time. With time her understanding of exploration and inquiry broadened, thanks to her peers. Now she uses images to share her love of science, to inquire, to discover, to understand, to pique curiosity.
She has since worked with several scientists and science institutes to create images for peer communication as well as outreach. She is also working on an illustrated book on the science of coloration in animals with Minhaj Sirajuddin, a scientist at InStem, Bangalore. She has also been making a collection of zines on her reflections and questions on cell biology. Her favorite response is when the audience chuckles or nods vehemently (in agreement or disagreement) with ideas in her work. She also somewhat recently discovered that she enjoys teaching. She believes in sharing whatever one knows without waiting to be the expert, and learn together while making stuff.
